Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

The very first Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet," revolves around a girl and her father who were first taken in by Mormons and then trapped by them. She was forced to marry one of two Mormon guys, instead of the man she loved, and when she and her father tried to escape the night...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

I have been reading a lot of Sherlock Holmes lately, and really enjoyed it. I am actually amazed to think about how imitated it is these days - there are probably half a dozen shows currently on TV where people analyze the evidence and try to solve a crime in a very similar manner (though it usuall...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

Oh hooray! It always makes me so happy when someone else finds him and likes him too. Wodehouse is a master.

I'm not sure what else I recommended at the time, though. I hope it matches up as well.

Re: "Convince yourself"

I guess that I could understand it sounding strange for concepts that don't have a concrete answer, such as Uffish's example. But in testable situations, I don't see any problem. Maybe that is why there is a divide? The more science oriented crowd is used to working with objective things, and so it...

Re: "Convince yourself"

I'd just like to weigh in to say that if someone told me to "convince myself" of something I was unsure of or didn't believe, it would leave a bad taste in my mouth, too. Example: I say "I really don't like the Twilight books much." A friend says "You just need to convince y...

Re: Becoming a young lady

For the record, I think you're gorgeous, krebscout, and I'd take fashion and "young lady" advice from you any day of the week. But I wasn't taught any makeup skills other than mascara, myself, and I'm sure my hygiene isn't up to many people's pars. So I can't offer you any advice of my own.

Re: GIRLS WHO SAY NO

Fun vaguely related anecdote: A guy I met at a party asked me out, and so we went. He was fairly attractive, pretty funny, and nice enough. I had a good time, but not a great one, and was undecided about if I wanted things to continue. A few days later, I decided that though he was a fine individual...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

I've decided I don't spend enough time watching the DVDs I own. (If I bought them, it's generally because I really, really liked them. So why don't I watch them more?) Anyway, I just finished rewatching Stranger Than Fiction. I do the same thing! We stopped buying movies because we never watched th...

Re: Pottermore

I'm a Hufflepuff. I always feel like it's the insulting leftovers house, so I wasn't thrilled, even though I actually resonate a bit with the description. Also, I think I'm not a big enough fan for the site. I don't care to read all the "bonus" information that's included. I kind of enjoye...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10

A combination of my friend mentioning this board to me last week and a whole bunch of free time to use up combined and I came over to check it out for the first time in a long time.

Hello! I'm so glad to see so many of my favorite people still in one place!

Heh. In the church or on the board? Church--I think so, yes. Board, if he is, he doesn't ask many questions at all.

Ah, right. Him. He's after Drama Queen. I didn't know Bertie too well, (sad, because Wodehouse is my favorite author ever,) but I exchange a couple words with Petra every now and again, which is fun. And yeah, Amy was one of my roommates. Sweet. So, thanks for being a fan. And, uh, for knowing a lot...

But I think one of the more pathetic things I've seen on the 100 hour board was a few years ago when a writer (who's identity I happened to know) went on a tirade against another alias that was, in fact, himself. To be fair, everyone was annoyed at the alias and my friend probably wanted to distanc...

Not really. More like a second primary alias, with how much he did with each.

Awww, someone liked my sultry voice response. Now I can feel justified in saying that I think the real key is saying one phrase as if you were saying something far, far sexier and more scandalous, and meaning it. This, by the way, can be a fun game, in the same way "make everyday phrases sound ...

Mmmm, I agree and disagree, ahem. There are good questions and bad questions. Though neither is guaranteed to have a matching answer, it's a whole lot more likely. Interesting questions often lead to interesting answers. Boring questions often lead to boring answers. And if you guys want to have you...
