The 12 and 17 year olds in my house read graphic novels. As a matter of fact, when I told them about your top 10 list, they both asked me to email them a link.

An interesting observation on Hilary that came up in a discussion with my daughter recently: Most first ladies are admired or ignored. They are known for their causes while their husband is in office. The closest I'd ever seen was people laughing at Nancy Reagan's "Just say no" campaign. B...

Pop when I was a kid, but as I've gotten older it has slowly morphed to soda. I was at a national conference as a kid in high school. The delegation from Oregon stopped by our room with an open door and asked where the pop machine was. I told them. They went on their way. My roommates, all from the ...

Interesting thread here on many topics. First, coming from your parents' generation, yes, there probably is a little less ostracism in society for the overweight, but there's still enough that women really do feel that overwhelming need to be thin enough, etc. to really be accepted and fit in. Of co...

Yes, at least as far as it goes. Traffic counts are also collected by road tubes that you see on the roads periodically. Those are only for a certain period of time on a regular schedule. And miles driven are calculated from both kinds of counts. To get mileage driven on roads minor enough to not me...

Sam, if that answer was unclear, let me know. I spent quite a while being responsible for submitting that stuff to the feds for Idaho.

If a long response is on something I care about, I'll read it all. If it's something I don't care as much about, I'll probably just skim. I read all of The Watchers response, because several people I know got really excited about the movie after seeing the preview, where I thought that the preview d...

I feel your pain Bob. The other day I ended up waiting so long for pages to load that by the time I was done, I'd been on so long that the new posts since my last visit no longer registered as such and I had to manually look for the new posts on the threads. Evidently I was on my next visit or somet...

I see this as two separate things as far as the invitation goes. If you *want* to go listen to him go speak in Sacrament Meeting, by all means, go for it. It's Sacrament Meeting. It's church. As far as a reception at his parents' house (during church? really? You're not kidding?) go if you'd feel co...

Thanks Claudio. I like the clarification. And like I said, after thinking about it, my first questioning of Garth and Queen on the list disappeared. So, I'll back you up on that one. To be honest, today's "country" music is more like the pop of my high school years than most of today's pop...

Dude, I can't country dance at all, but there are a lot of non-country songs you can country dance to and a lot of country songs you can't country dance to. I'm not sure that helps much.....

I suspect, but I may be wrong here, that the issue is one of perception more than anything else. We all have our pet subjects that we like to talk about. We may be certain that we speak about them often, but certainly not constantly. Someone listening to us who cares about the subject but not as dee...

Unit of Energy, you say that country and pop have distinct differences. Can you give me examples? What makes one song country and another pop? And the reason I'm asking you specifically for clarification is that one of the artists on his list that made me think for a bit (but not the only one) was G...

#46121 - Best pop songs

What do you think makes a song "pop"? Is pop actually a genre of music? Or simply what's popularly played on the radio at a given point in time on pop radio stations? I'm honestly not trying to stir the pot. I've really wondered about this many, many times in the past. While I detest the B...

I've only asked on recent question (which was evidently offensive to some of the writers) and I think it was a day late, but I didn't pay that close of attention. I've gotten the impression from several answers recently, though, that more writers than usual took the summer off and they ended up way ...
