Make sure you block out a 60-hour block of time before you watch the premiere. That show is binge-inducing viewing.

Re: # 72717 Movie trends

In the defense of sequels and adaptations, that's a good amount of what Shakespeare wrote and nobody seemed to mind. I think dismissing a film because it's a sequel is foolish, but so is giving it a pass and letting the good will earned by an earlier film in the series make you give higher praise th...

Re: Bacon in heaven

Under the assumption that we'll still enjoy the things we enjoy now after the resurrection, I've often wondered if God ate bacon while the Mosaic law was in place for his chosen people. The most likely conclusion I've come up with is, "Of course!" I imagine it to be similar to when parents...

There's an energy to excited movie theaters that changes the viewing experience. That's one of the perks of midnight shows.

#63999 Superheroes v. Supervillains

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/63999/ Two points: 1) In 1984 Marvel Comics published one of the first company-wide crossovers in comic books called Secret Wars. In the story, a cosmic entity called the Beyonder is curious about the nature of good and evil and which is more powerful. So he plucks ...

Re: #64080 - Favorite superhero movie

Where does Zorro fit? (He doesn't have powers, either, but he does have a costume.) Also, is there a point at which being ridiculously rich can be considered a superpower, because that seems to be a common trait in heroes without powers (and you could add Tony Stark to the list). And how does the s...

Well, you can tell any story you want in comics, whether it counts as a superhero comic is the question. Both Beowulf and Samson have been used hundreds of times in comics.

Re: #64080 - Favorite superhero movie

I'm away from my books, so I can't give you a thorough break down at the moment (but I can in a few days) but off the top of my head I'll say costume and powers. Now, clearly, missing one or two elements of a genre doesn't remove a character from that genre. Batman has no powers, but is still clearl...

Re: #64080 - Favorite superhero movie

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/64080/ The Scarlet Pimpernel! (Don't try to tell me Sir Percy Blakeney isn't a superhero.) Honorable mention goes to The Incredibles. I will tell you he's not a superhero. He's a proto-superhero, but he simply does not meet the generic conventions of a superhero.

Looking back...

I might have been prematurely optimistic about this. I'm not sure what made me think of this answer from back in the day, but from all media reports, my anticipation was unwarranted.
