Re: Den of apostates
Yes, I get a little sad when I find that someone isn't active, but that's more of the same sadness when you find out that your friend finally read your favorite book and didn't like it. Even then, it makes me happy to see what's going on in their lives and that in general, they're happy. I've reali...

Re: Therapy is dumb.
Things have been really really really really bad for weeks and weeks inside of my head. I finally have a psychiatrist appointment this week as well as an appointment with a possible therapist, but I probably won't stick with that therapist. Therapist shopping is the absolute worst. However, pot and...

SIL dressing style - #89173
https://theboard.byu.edu/questions/89173/ Based on the information provided, I honestly can't tell if this new sister-in-law dresses like a hooker, or goes for hobo chic, or is obsessed with cosplay, or simply doesn't have the requisite amount of cashmere on her wardrobe, but that mother sounds like...

Re: Mental illness is dumber
I've been incredibly anxious for almost two weeks now. Three doctor's visits. Three new prescriptions, plus referrals to a counselor and a psychiatrist, and the doctor really wanted me to check myself into the hospital. I've only attended two class, one today and one Tuesday, since the start of the...

Re: picking your roommate's major
I didn't have trouble picking my major(s) (aside from the fact that I added the second one when I was a senior), but I picked my minor by going through the undergraduate course catalog and crossing off all of the things I wasn't interested in. (Prior to declaring my second major, I was required to h...

Re: Women in STEM
One problem I see with STEM attracting women is that I only see limited career choices being promoted as STEM. There's a loud marketing campaign out there to get women in computer programming and a few others. While those are great options, the possibilities are vast. For example, I have a STEM deg...

In the last year and half, people have twice offered to give me a ride when they've seen me walking home from the grocery store. (However, I walk to the grocery store because I live across the street, so I have politely declined both times.)

Well, I guess it's the Office of Compliance's job to worry about losing accreditation!Zedability wrote:Losing accreditation was the bogeyman at the Office of Compliance when I worked there, haha, so I might be a little more sensitive to that possibility.

Re: Rant of the Day
Part of the reason I'm glad Mr. Z plans on going to more school after BYU is that I genuinely wonder whether it will be able to stay accredited. I work at BYU, but I had no idea they were in danger of losing their accreditation. Is it with respect to certain colleges? BYU renewed their accreditatio...

Re: 87466 - Understanding the Mormon LGBT struggle
Honestly, it's so so hard and you can't really understand unless you are Mormon and LGBT. I had so much faith for so long. I still pray all the time, I still live mostly the same way I always lived when I was active in the church (I do drink coffee now because it actually helps my arthritis a lot, ...

Born in '79, and I definitely did this in YW/seminary. I'll try to remember to ask my mom when I see her this weekend.

Re: Rant of the Day
All of my possible wedding stories would mostly include everything that's gone wrong since our engagement: getting mono, needing to get a wisdom tooth out unexpectedly, having month-long depressive episode, dealing with my parents, and now my car getting stolen. I'm almost curious as to what else w...

A friend of mine is an editor at a children's magazine and she jokes that children's editors have to have the dirtiest minds of anyone in the industry, because they have to be able to think of every possible way a word or phrase could be misinterpreted.

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/87556/ Pointing out that a word's primary definition has a sexual connotation does not make a word (or comment about that word, or the person making a comment about that word) dirty. Another quality, polite, assertive smackdown by Zedability. Plus, even if the prim...

Yeah, Utah is certainly colder than places where it never snows, but much of the rest of the country (and Canada) is colder. (Actually, now that I think about it, Utah is the warmest place I've ever lived.)
