Re: #85685 - conservative parents
I didn't post this question, but this is 100% my parents as well. I got an internship with the Democratic House leadership committee in the Utah Legislature a few years ago and I don't think my parents have ever been so disappointed in me. I distinctly remember my mother hanging up on me when I star...

Re: Unwanted kissing (84886)
I disagree with most of the writers who believe that kissing is a huge deal, but unwanted kissing is a big deal. With my manic Tinder dating phase I had several guys force themselves on me and get handsy and aggressive without any consideration for my consent. For most of it I didn't say no, but I w...

Too Proud to Tinder Date
This is in response to the questioner in http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/84759/. First of all, BYU sucks in terms of dating. No one dates there, even though it feels like everyone does and everyone is supposed to. I was in your boat: educated, hard working, fun to be around, and marginally cute. C...

Re: religion/relationship poll
So I can't tap dance, and I definitely can't sing at all. So this is just going to need to be a dramatic play or something. But I am on my sixth date in five days, so....

Re: religion/relationship poll
Hah, as you know Portia, I'm single and active LDS, but definitely dating other non-Mormons right now. I'm dating Mormons, non-Mormons...anything cute and male that is still breathing, and preferably wears a uniform of some sort. Mormon men just....don't click with me. I've now met many, many Mormon...

Re: BQ 83402 YSA - privileged position or persecuted posteri
Update: Just got back from church.
We talked in RS about how men could be good spiritual leaders and on how women could spend effective time with their children, because of course, women can't be spiritual leaders and men can't spend effective time with their kids. You can only do one or the other.

I moved to Cottonwood Heights. I have no idea what the makeup is. Not the Avenues, and no grad students either, I think. I'M SCREWED.

Re: BQ 83402 YSA - privileged position or persecuted posteri
Hah! I was actually at the Manhattan YSA all throughout July. I was in NYC for work training. They were so friendly and genuine and nice. And the talks blew me away. I was in the back row, fighting back tears because they just really hit me (and also I'm still an emotional wreck post break up) and I...

Re: BQ 83402 YSA - privileged position or persecuted posteri
I would hardly say that those things really amount to a "privileged" position. Later start times don't make the feeling of a meat market go away. I hate YSA's in Utah (going to my new one this Sunday for the first time.... terrified) but find that YSA's outside Utah are much, much better. ...

Concorde, nice to see you round these parts. Thanks TBS. Moving/month long training in NYC/emotional fallout from breakup/starting a new full-time job... it all happened at once and kind of put me into "head-down, try-to-power-through" mode. I'm starting to peek back out a little more, bu...

Re: Answers I liked
I am a strong believer in thank-you notes, and if I don't get one from you, I make a mental note not to give you expensive gifts in the future. It just seems so...rude to me. Especially when I was a poor college student, shelling out good money for all my married friends. If I'm spending money on yo...

Re: 82822 - Pregnant Trek Ma
Also anecdotal: I wasn't pregnant, but I got hideously sick while on trek and had pretty much the exact same symptoms as you, except for that I ended up in the hospital.
So yeah...moral of the story: pregnant or not, don't do trek.

Cleared this out, upon further reflection.

Wow. When it's phrased like that, I just imagine it's like some sort of pet the lady wants to pick up and bring home for her kids to play with. That's messed up.to pick up a wild chicken pox virus

Re: 82781- Chicken Pox and Judgement
Given how rare chicken pox is in the U.S. Right now (granted, not as rare as it should be), my natural inclination is to assume that these parties aren't really happening these days... Not with any notable frequency, anyway.

Re: 82781- Chicken Pox and Judgement
I would love to know how typical this thing is modernly, because I've never heard of it really happening at all in the past fifteen years. Previously, it was very common. Now it seems fairly unheard of.

82781- Chicken Pox and Judgement
Okay, hold up a hot second, Yay. I just want to thank Haleakexplosion for his commentary. I had chicken pox as a child when I was four (about 1997). The vaccine was available, but it should be noted that at that point in time, like Haleaka said, it wasn't widely available, and when it was available,...

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that I had credited you for that idea. Seriously people! Go after Yay for that one. That hadn't even occurred to me until he brought it up.
