Re: Labor Positions
Ok, apparently I have more opinions than I thought. I'm sure you guys aren't using the word "right" in the sense of "this is the one, best, correct way to birthe a baby." But I feel like pointing out (for the sake of anyone else reading) that labor is an individual experience an...

Re: Labor Positions
What of women in Africa who are working in the field, go into labor, walk into the trees, come back out a few hours later with a baby? I've read a lot about "primitive" labor practices and a lone labor is not the most common. Usually "primitive" women in labor have other people ...

Re: Labor Positions
Birth doesn't have to be "painful" (I speak from experience, and sans pain meds.) And being scared can make it worse. Yes, women have been giving birth for millions of years. But for the majority of those years, birth was considered miraculous, spiritual, and exciting. It wasn't until earl...

Re: Labor Positions
I have to admit, that comment is a little... jarring... to my natural birth instincts. My personal experience is that laying down is such a HORRIBLE idea. At least, my body hates it. They made me do it once with Dragon Baby, in order to get better readings on the fetal heart tones, and the second th...

Re: Therapy is dumb.
Vorpal, my dad has a *lot* of health problems. Mostly stemming from the fact that he only has a half a stomach due to bleeding ulcers in the early part of his marriage. (They now have much better ways of fixing those, but they didn't then.) But even if they are caused from the half-stomach, they're ...

Re: Things babies don't need
I had a friend use a pack and play for well over a year and then, I think, moved her into a bed. I don't think she ever got a crib, though I could be wrong.

Re: Things babies don't need
A properly swaddled baby will be fine... until they start to get strong enough to break out of their swaddle. At which point sleep quality dwindles dramatically because they're used to being swaddled, but then they get out of the swaddle unintentionally and startle themselves. I hate it. I invested ...

"You only need one; if he's the right one." Name that movie. Apparently Kirsten Dunst as Amy in Little Women says, “You only need one if he’s the right one.” Very good. Googling, I'm guessing. :) She was specifically talking about how you don't need scores of suitors, though. You only nee...

Re: Answers I liked
Good advice about letting oneself be vulnerable after breakups. It unfortunately applies to me this week so it's what I needed to hear. And this is kind of cheesy but Anne is one of those poster children for "how is she single?" She's very pretty, seems ambitious and well-spoken, and unli...

Re: Deciding Where to Settle Down
Be a nomad. It's more adventurous. One thing that comes to mind though is in-network vs out-of-network doctors for one's health insurance. Depends on the insurance. Many nation-wise ones have in-network all over the country. Granted, if you're an international nomad, that could be far more difficult.

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to
I remember loving the book. And the next. But then the next... 4 or so (I have two giant books with three books in each, I think) totally lost my interest. I should try them again. I just got them on my Kindle for free. And I have the giant books. Might as well.

Re: Deciding Where to Settle Down
I should note: I'm not saying California is a bad place for everyone. Just for Yellow and my personalities and goals. And Vorpal, land might be cheaper away from the coast, but if we did choose to live in Cali, it would be because Yellow got a job at Apple. In which case we'd have to choose between ...
