Re: Plan B

If you assume that all early miscarriages are God's will and therefore ought not to be averted, yet assume many if not all of those could have equivalent value to a born infant, then you must disavow the medical profession entirely; else, how is curing heart disease not averting God's will? Again, ...

Re: Plan B

Alright, so let me make some clarifying remarks and try to point out why it matters to me personally. First, I agree that, as a matter of Mormon religious doctrine, we do not know when the soul enters the body. I've heard all sorts of great (put irony tags around that) explanations for when the soul...

Re: Plan B

No, it's quite alright. I had always been under the impression that Plan B and other morning-after contraception pills were meant to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. This significantly changes my opinion on them.

Re: Plan B

Gotcha. (Let me restate to make sure I understand.) So Plan B is really for the interval between insemination and the time that fertilization would occur. So fertilization never actually happens. I think I was thrown off by the line in your response where you say, "If a fertilized egg has alrea...

Re: Plan B

Help me understand what happens. Suppose no contraception taken. Egg is fertilized. 10 minutes later, woman takes Plan B. What physiologically will happen if Plan B does what it is supposed to?

Plan B

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/69861/ I thought Eirene did a good job. I submitted a comment that is waiting for approval that differs slightly. Mainly, I thought it would be useful to point out that the definition of pregnancy has changed over time. The current definition arose in the mid-1960s,...

Re: Another question about marriage

The tongue-in-cheek answer I got from a religion teacher way back in the day as to why a man could have multiple sealings, but not a woman was that if a woman had more than one husband, they would bicker and argue over who got to wear the pants and rule their various worlds. But multiple wives woul...

She's got no idea what it is like. (The same goes for me, too, obviously. Male and female sex drives are like apples and oranges, in my opinion. I understand the female sex drive in theory, but I can't say what it'd be like to live with it.) +billion. I've always wondered who had such wide life exp...

Age Change Impact on BYU Admissions/Class Size

I have to be quick so I can't insert the question # (which I don't remember) or a link. If a mod wants to edit for me and put it in, I am open to that. [EDIT: #69424 or #69283 ] http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/55129357-78/missionaries-lds-missionary-mormon.html.csp The article doesn't talk about t...

Re: New missionary age

I am interested to see if there is a noticeable change to female attendance at byu over the next two years. How many more sisters will go on a mission?

One True Political Party

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/69135/ Great job on the responses. I thought I would point out that Conner Boyack claims to be libertarian, but everything he has published tends toward a typical social conservative stance rather than classic liberalism. And for the record, I hate his dogmatic appr...

Re: Job Screening Software

This drives me crazy as well. I know that if I could actually get in to talk to a human being I could get a job, but everything's online now, and a year's worth of rejection has been so depressing I've given up. Nearly every job I have began when I chose to bypass a gatekeeper (e.g. automated resum...

Economics of Printers

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/67747/ One of the writers made the comment that the economics of printers makes no sense. They actually make good sense. It is basically a form of tying where you require people to buy two products together. In order to use the printer, you have to buy an ink cartri...

Excise! Thats it. My mind was blocking it.

Resecet sounds like a fun one though. I am going to try to use that in writing at some point

Can't Think of the Word!

I am writing an email and I am struggling to think of a word. My brain has the sense that the word means to carefully cut away from a larger whole. It conjures up an image of a doctor using a scalpel to cut something away.

Any suggestions?

Re: 67390 - Once Upon a Time

Carrapicho, I'm guessing season finale is everybody remembers or at least some key players do. I am thinking that the series will take a dramatic shift going into next season. Lost did this to start Season 3, 5, and 6 and it worked fairly well. I'm hoping the series goes three seasons with a tight p...

Aren't the four gospels just a collection of vague "love everybody" pages? (I kid, I kid!)

67390 - Once Upon a Time

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/67390/ Alright, so the question isn't really about Once Upon a Time, but since it came up, I decided to start a thread on it. My wife and I have been watching this the entire the season and we absolutely love it. I completely admit it's a bit cheesy at points, but e...
