Re: Answers I liked
There's no question that the casual usage of clinical terms like "depression" makes the things they are intended to diagnose or treat harder, or for people to take seriously. I mean, even though some people get lethargic when eating massive quantities of sugar, I've never heard anyone say ...

Re: political compass reading
In fact, I'm only surprised that I haven't crossed that last square. I guess it is because of how I answered the protectionism question, but I'm too far removed from that to answer it in any binary way.

Re: top albums/songs of 2015
How do you get into music? When do you listen to music? Most of my life is lived without music, except in the car or sometimes at work at which time I want stuff that is not disruptive. I'm just curious. :) As a teenager I was a little into music, but definitely not "cool" stuff, just ran...

I don't have direct experience to add here, but I just want to say that I'm taking a course in online pedagogy right now and we've discussed MOOCs at length.

Re: Rant of the Day
I have a professor who is incredibly....precise in his expectations. Most everyone in his graduate seminar is afraid of commenting because of how he grills people, and he's just as hard on written work. I submitted our first longer paper (5 pages) and I'm waffling between extreme relief at being (te...

Yep, but the fact that it is a tautology doesn't stop people from using the argument. (And assuming it means something else)Shrinky Dink wrote:Technically, if guns were illegal, and you owned a gun, you would be considered a criminal.

Re: What makes you happy today?
Had a class yesterday where I gave a pretty impassioned rant about the problems with the way higher education is funded, and how wrong-headed it is to expect the Humanities to justify their existence in terms of fiduciary viability. My students probably either love me or think I'm crazy, and I'm act...

Yeah, it is actually fairly obvious it is a cartoon in multiple episodes. They refer to it as such, there are voice people, writers (Lisa and Bart even write episodes in one episode) they show animators, and Marge lobbies against "cartoon violence" in one episode primarily targeting Itchy ...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I just got Windows 10 on my computer. (I had 7) So far it's been chiming a lot and looks a little different. My computer is 5 years old now, so I figured it won't last long anyway. I might as well get a free test run of the new OS so I can better decide when I get my next computer whether I want 7 ...

Thank you for your response, Zed. I will spend some time thinking about the things you've said. I really appreciate it, especially given your feelings about the way I respond. It is difficult to get a response from anyone in that kind of position, given their feelings, so what you've said is quite v...

I'll go ahead and say that I'm fairly certain that I'm one of the people referred to as being a bully. I don't know that I agree with the characterization, but feelings are certainly valid, and so I would want to know what I did/do/said/typed in the past gave that impression, and how I can avoid it ...

Re: 83352 - The Board Apostasy Board (I'm joking, not hating
I just think it odd that "LDS perspective" is always deemed to be something without diversity of opinion. I mean, it sounds like the questioner isn't upset that more correlation-approved opinions don't exist on here, simply that there exists opinions that aren't correlation-approved. The a...
