Chicken burritos tonight...with the leftover sauce and fillings from our fake Cafe Rio dinner the other night.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Are there any projects you could work on for them right now that would let you develop your skills? Can you do research or a mock-up of the kind of "real" work you'd like to be doing? I'm not sure if they'd let me do that on the clock...just because all our time is billed to specific clie...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

thebigcheese... how disappointing. At least you'll make some good connections and get a feel for the industry? Yeah, I mean...my boss seems to have this grand vision that the company will grow pretty significantly, he'll be able to expand our department, and he wants me to be a part of all that. So...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

At work today, I decided to ask a bold question. They've been giving me a lot of gopher-esque work lately, so I asked my boss point-blank if there was any real work coming down the pipeline for me. I didn't get the answer I was hoping for. He pretty much said, "there's an outside chance that we...

Re: What's for dinner?

Since we got green chilies from Bountiful Baskets last week, my husband made chicken enchiladas...because that's the only recipe we have that includes green chilies. But we still have several peppers left! If anyone knows what else to make with green chilies, please let me know. Marduk, I'm looking ...

Re: Ragnar rip off

We are actually good friends with the person who stated and runs the Utah Valley Marathon, so I do know a bit about where the money goes. I remember his first year, he had so few people sign up that he only barely broke even with 200+ runners. And this year his races have been sold out for months. ...

Grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches. Oh my heavenly delicious. I will never eat a plain grilled cheese again.

Re: Ragnar rip off

Huh. That is interesting. I've always wondered where the money from other big races goes (half marathons and marathons, in particular), but that sounds ridiculous.

Running becomes a surprisingly expensive hobby when you start racing...

I would count them as that, yeah.
I've always wondered how that came to be. You would think that other-colored jeans would've become popular at some point (I guess they did in the 70's), but for the most part we all wear blue ALL THE TIME.

Hmm...now you've got me thinking about all sorts of alien-related things. Like the alien stress ball that my sister made. Or the inflatable hammer with alien print that my husband just adores. And let's not forget the illegals down the street...

Re: Education reform

People shouldn't think of art classes as being less valuable because those classes can and do lead to many great jobs in graphic design. This made me laugh because it makes it sound like graphic design is all you can do with an art education. Eh, I just picked graphic design because I figured it wa...

Re: Education reform

Since Imogen just mentioned eating, that reminded me of a conversation I had with my sister the other day. School lunches. There really needs to be some dollars and reforms going on there. First of all, kids shouldn't be given so many crappy options...because they WILL take them. I ate pretty well i...

Re: Epidurals

I think I'm a little late to the cost discussion, but I just want to point out that the cost of birth varies A TON, depending on your insurance provider. On the high end, I've heard of deductibles in the $7000-8000 range. On the low end, I've heard of 100% coverage for a normal birth. Amazing? Yes i...

Re: Flat tax

Of course. I don't think there's any question that the government needs to cut spending right now. The problem is, those cuts are going to hurt somebody and certain politicians are unwilling to make those bold changes because they will be horrendously unpopular. Cutting the budget for Medicare and M...

Re: Flat tax

But I'm still not convinced that a flat tax, (or, rather, a flat-er tax) couldn't be implemented that wouldn't be a significant step upward. Flattening the tax brackets basically means you have to do one of three things: raise taxes for the poorest people, lower taxes for the middle-to-highest inco...
