Re: Board defectors

While I don't think Yog quite landed on any reasons as to why Board writers would leave, I would be inclined to think that having older, retired writers back would skew the stats. Most writers start as BYU undergrads and leave the board after a couple years. A BYU student cannot defect without forfe...

Re: Church Members Supporting Gay Marriage

In polygamy and polyandry, couldn't the other wives or husbands be considered married to one another? I realize that they tend to use different term (like "sister wife" instead of just "wife"), but I don't think it's a stretch to consider that the relationship between two sister...

Re: Temple Marriage

Wired, being freaked out by the temple is hugely relevant. That's probably the biggest reason I'm not thrilled at the idea of a temple wedding myself. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't understand this being a dude. As a girl, we all dream of the perfect day...kinda lame but...

Re: Temple Marriage

Marduk is correct that the 6% refers to cancellation of sealings. The civil divorce rate is high for both civil and temple marriages. Often the sealing cancellation is such a lengthy process (and often isn't granted despite civil termination) and with both parties being exhausted from the civil divo...

Re: rebuke?

After talking with CK, I think I need to clarify my point. First, I don't think the reader was being snippy because I completely understand where he is coming from. See my first point. Second, the reader specifically asked not that the document be dismissed but that the document not be used IN A SEX...

Re: rebuke?

But the thing is, the asker wasn't dismissing the document; he was merely asking it not be used to criticize his wife for pursuing her education. That's what makes Phaedrus' rebuke insulting.

rebuke?

http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/65013/ Did anyone else find Phaedrus' rebuke completely unwarranted? As a woman pursuing advanced degrees in a typically male field, I can attest that people use the proclamation as a tool to belittle ambitious women. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, &quo...

Re: Doctor Who

Yeah, I wasn't terribly impressed either. I was also the former writer who dropped the ball...sorry dudes. Matt Smith is definitely growing on me but I thought the main issue was poor writing. The series lacked the drama and grandeur of the former series. I found the Donna finale to be one of the gr...

Marduk, don't think I'm slacking. I'm searching my Journal of Discourses for you. I know it mentioned Adam-God at least twice.

Re: Creation of the earth

So, a couple things since this thread seems to be frighteningly for real. First to CK: There are a couple ideas about Adam. You have the Brigham Young discourses where Adam is god from a different planet (but we don't really follow that anymore) and Eve is one of his wives. You have the idea that Po...

A to the MEN, CK!! #64454

What I want to know is who spends 2k on a bike and gets a metal frame? That's more than enough to get into even a low-end carbon fiber frame. Furthermore, anyone who locks a $2k to a tree is clearly not worthy of a fine bike. For once, I will say "good on byu."

Re: Just don't know what to do with myself.

I read the title of this thread and really hoped it was going to be about everyone's favorite White Stripes song. Oh well.

However, if anyone cares to know, mine is "Little Acorns" followed closely by "Black Math."
