Simpsons top 10 list
I've posted this on FB, but I don't actually know many of you in real life, so I'll post it here, too. (And because I value your opinion, of course.) My wife and I are trying to put together a list of the ten best episodes of the Simpsons, and so far, we've been able to narrow it down to thirty. We'...

Re: Warnings of the Spirit Versus Simply Feeling Uncomfortab
I'm usually just a lurker here, but I have something small I'd like to contribute here. (And it's not even snarky, krebscout.) Maybe this is just me, but I've never really experienced the influence of the Holy Ghost together with emotion. Instead, I feel those promptings as razor-sharp clarity. I'm ...

I'll take a look at it, then. And I'll be sure to ask you if I'm ever stuck on a term or a concept. Which will probably be sooner rather than later. Thanks, friend.

Re: #64797 - linguists and valid constructions
I haven't read much of Language Log, actually. My MA program is actually in Japanese linguistics with an emphasis on translation. Would it still be relevant and useful to me? I'm all about being one of the cool kids and reading the LL (which I assume is what they call it on the street), but I'm not ...

Re: #64797 - linguists and valid constructions
Sorry, Katya. You're absolutely right about the nuances of descriptive linguistics. I didn't get any more in depth about the subject because, well, I'm still pretty new to the subject, having only just started my program. To be fair, though, the (basic) idea I was trying to get across was that a pre...

Re: #63666 - DARE's Decade Quiz
To be fair, the ideal question for a time traveller would be something like, "What year did you come here from?"

Re: #63666 - DARE's Decade Quiz
Considering that 18 people knew at least one answer compared to the 4 that didn't know any, that's a success rate of 82%. It's not perfect, but I think that's about as good as we're going to get. People who aren't familiar with the wardrobe malfunction aren't likely to be time travellers, anyway.

Re: CA Law
It's banned in a majority of US states and is actually a criminal offense in eight of them (Nevada, Utah, Arizona, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin). Interestingly enough, California allows it, despite what we've all seen in Arrested Development . ( Cite .) And back to lurk...

I meant to write "worshipers," but I think we can all agree "worshiper" is much, much funnier.
Glad you guys enjoyed it. Considering it nearly went to 1100 hours, I figured I'd better make it worth everyone's while.

Re: Hi, D.A.R.E.!
Don't worry, friends. I like you guys. I read all the time just to see what readers think of us. Sorry if my response gave the wrong impression; I thought the "hi guys!" bit was enough to show that I was joking. Tough to convey tone without using emoticons, and I'm not really a fan.
