What are you drinking?
So I just bought a soda stream because it was on clearance for like 70% off. And now I am making all kinds of interesting beverages. So I thought we needed an interesting beverage thread in case any of the rest of you also like interesting beverages. And I will start by sharing what I made yesterday...

Re: During what time of the day do you read for fun?
If I get a decent lunch break, I read novels on my kindle (or the kindle app on my phone). And also before bed.

I think my grandparents did. My dad does not, but he does have piles of old Harper's magazines and mystery novels everywhere.

I just want you to know that I read this as "Lake Menarche" and I was like, that's a terrible name for a lake.

I bought a carbon monoxide detector today. I've never had one before. It also detects natural gas. I'm very excited about not dying of carbon monoxide poisoning and not having my house explode from a gas leak now.

Also re: IUDs - I've never been pregnant or had sex, and I had an IUD put in last year to help control my periods. Best thing I ever did. I was on birth control pills for years to control my periods (I have really heavy, frequent periods that make me anemic) and all the pill did was cause a lot of s...

Re: Regretting an abortion
Modern IUDs actually don't increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections. Some older IUDs did because of how were they designed, but those aren't used anymore. Having multiple partners with an IUD is no more risky than having multiple partners without one. There's possibly a slight risk of de...

Yes, H-dude (I'm too tired to try to spell right now), I always appreciate how well-thought out your answers are - overall, not just about this topic. Politically I couldn't be more different from you, but I always really appreciated well-described ideas from people that I disagree with. It reminds ...

Re: Rant of the Day
I thought that was good advice, Zed. The questioner isn't going to be able to do anything about her friend's parenting interactions or the other kid's behavior, so politely explaining why her kid needs to take a break from playing with the other kid seems like the best thing to do. And totally agree...

I would totally go. I'm usually fairly risk-averse, but I have wanted to go to space since before I could even talk.

YOU GUYS. There is a restaurant here called Earl's that has this warm potato salad and I could eat an entire vat of it. It is so good. And I just found an knock-off recipe for it: http://www.food.com/recipe/earls-warm-potato-salad-with-roast-corn-and-bacon-459647 You all need to eat this. If you're ...

My brother used to swear like a sailor, but now he's in the Navy and is an actual sailor and he doesn't swear anymore because he has kids.

Waiting Lists for Ridiculously Expensive Summer Camp
http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/82365/ I just want to say that this kind of blew my mind because I had no idea this was a thing (all of it, including summer camps that cost $15K and people putting kids on waiting lists for them 13 years ahead of time). Holy crap. So I googled "really expensiv...

Margarine vs butter: http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/80832/ I would just like to add that margarine isn't even better than butter if you are a vegan or have a dairy allergy, because most margarine still has some kind of bits of dairy byproducts in it. It does, however, work very well as a cheap fo...

Re: Requirements for Monson Scholars
Yeah, the depositing $4K is a BYU thing. It did not exist when I went to BYU. I would not have been able to go. I was able to also borrow parents' bank statements to pretend I had whatever amount of money they wanted, but there was no way anyone in my family had $4K for me to deposit so I could go t...

Re: Requirements for Monson Scholars
Yeah, BYU has done a number of things that, in my opinion, are making it incredibly financially difficult for international students to go there, and I tell them this when they call me to ask for money and I say no. I save my donations for the only one of the three universities I've graduated from t...
