Re: White Elephant Gift ideas?

Tao (I'm pretty sure it was him, not Rating Pending) once brought an awesome one to a Board white elephant exchange. I don't remember details, but I remember it was something about a snowman. There were bowls of water, an old carrot, some coal, etc. But I remember it being more awesome than that an...

Re: Sexually experienced girlfriend

And, according to my medical training, pregnancy is considered a 'disease'. (Etymologically it makes sense, getting pregnant sure puts most expectant mothers off their ease, sooner or later.) In that light, it would be considered a STD but not a STI.

Re: Qualtrics!! :D

Aye, I too, struggled with that questionnaire, even some of the very first questions tripped me up. Do you read in other languages? Yes. How much official training have you had in the languages you are reading in? Uhhhh? cumulative? average per language? My first inclination was none, as my more act...

@DL:

Theory the first

Step one: catch offender.
Step two: beat offender severely.
Step three: evaluate offender for vegetative condition.
Step four: eat vegetable.

Theory the second

Worse. Much, much worse.

Re: Spiritual but not religious (or not)

And Tao, yes, we have had this discussion before, and the LDS church is far more dogmatic than most protestant religions. I guess I just don't see it. I grew up going to a Nazarene church and I'd say they at least are more likely to say "this is because we say it is, don't question it." I...

Re: Spiritual but not religious (or not)

I don't know that I am able to contribute much to this conversation, as there are many aspects I'm fairly sure I'm not connecting on. One of which I seem to remember talking to Marduk about at one point, but forgive me for asking again: how do you define your usage of the word dogmatic? Because theo...

Re: Daily random tidbit.

I'm reading an article about swearing for a paper. It says that in English there are three basic categories of swears, one of which includes words that are related to religion (like "damn" or "hell"). I never realized it, but "bloody" is in that category, which makes s...

Heh, this thread confused me until I had read far enough to catch on that it was in reference to Harry Potter. Man; y'all's esoterism can be extreme. Just saying.

Re: Too Much Damn Swearing

I think what I'm trying to say is that I don't swear, I watch shows and read books that often have swearing and I don't mind, I don't much care if other people swear around consenting adults, and if you think the concept of having swear words in a language is stupid and you want to change the way w...

Just a quick point of order to say I'm completely with you Rifka, except on the Nephi/Laban bit. As far as I know there was no counsel against Nephi's actions. The commandment is לֹ֥֖א תִּֿרְצָֽ֖ח literally "do no murder".

Heh, this seems as good a location as anywhere to post: friends of my wife run a warehouse-type business up in Lindon and they just had a couple pallets of lemon and lime juice get dumped on them. So if anyone on the message board has any desire for lemon or lime juice in bulk for cheap let us know....

But the thing is, the asker wasn't dismissing the document; he was merely asking it not be used to criticize his wife for pursuing her education. That's what makes Phaedrus' rebuke insulting. That's true. But it's a bit shortsighted to assume that anytime anyone quotes the Family Proclamation, it's...

Re: steam cleaners to replace mops?

I've not ever used one, though it looks like a swiffer on steroids, and my mom swears by them. (the mops, not the steroids) I wonder about the lack of surfactants though. Non-polar molecules simply don't stick to water, you need some sort of go-between that sticks to the polar water and any non-pola...

Also along similar lines, there are situations that can allow men as young as 17 serve a mission, one Elder on my mission was completing his second year before most people would have been leaving. (He's here at BYU now, said he has had numerous people disbelieve his insistence that yes, he did serve...
