Re: anxiety

Ditto to Chilly gator on the yoga. Taking the time to focus on breathing and be aware of my body helps me a lot. Running does something similar, but I like yoga so much more than running. Therapy is great too. And as always, if it persists, medication is an option. My doctor gave me anti-seizure med...

Indeed (usually newborns are rather smashed and not so attractive), but your child is rather adorable himself.

Re: Return to sender

I'm with thatonemom. I think people in the social sciences tend to lean slightly left of BYU-center if the overall variation is much at all. Also, I grew up around professors and their children and have to say that the social science professors leaned more liberal (like being the only declared democ...

I went to Summerfest here at BYU a couple of years ago, and they required all of the kids that went for piano to take organ classes for the week.
That's how I started. I'm still not any good, but at least I know basic technique (which helps a lot).

Class until 10:15 and then work in the same building you're anticipating meeting, so I doubt I'll be able to make it. Have fun though.

Re: Do you sing?

After my freshman year, my piano skills dropped dramatically. I lost quite a bit of strength in my hands and I'm still trying to regain it, but not having consistent access to pianos without effort makes it difficult to motivate myself. Also, technique pieces tend to be boring and I hate drilling (...

Re: Answers I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary on the hymns, especially on all the "oh we're learning how to play hymns" hymns. Also, I appreciated the pianist and chord comments. I'm holding onto this doc for the next time I'm playing anything besides prelude music.

I apparently missed that one. And it's about what I expected...

I just hope this is a place where the story diverges and Lydia dumps Wickham like a match burning too close to her fingers.

Re: Belmont and other housing...

If you mean the apartments, then I've heard good things as they're cheap and close to campus. I didn't hear anything from them about the management (sorry Zed). I had friends live there and they only moved because they got in at Regency (which is notoriously difficult to get into). The condos on the...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to

So it turns out that Dead Souls (by Nikolai Gogol) has a brilliantly satirical wit to it. Only 25 pages in, and I've fallen in love with the style. Which translation are you reading? The one by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. It keeps getting better. :D Oh hey, that's the translation I'm on...

Re: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

78+ episodes! This sounds dangerous. It is, but I managed to catch up on the 30+ episodes I missed from before Thanksgiving in an evening back before the semester got going. Pull up the playlist and fold laundry, it's great fun. Also, I'm thrilled that Lydia appears to be alone in her home bedroom ...

Re: Introduce Yourselves!

As I already broke my lurkerdom elsewhere today, I might as well say hi here. I go by Violet (or variations of it). I've been lurking the boardboard for... awhile. Maybe a year? Then there was something I was going to comment on a few weeks back (I don't remember what now), so I registered for the f...
