Post-grad school trip!

Congrats on being in a more lucrative field than me, future traveler! I am likely to have some traveling time this summer. Iceland is at the top of the list, and I might go to Wyoming for a week and kick around California this spring. Ignore your mom, traveling alone is amazing and perfectly safe. M...

Re: We need to pressure young LDS women more about marriage.

Ughhhhhhhhhhh just got off a Tinder date with a self proclaimed western male chauvinist. As if that weren't bad enough one of the authors I list in my LinkedIn profile as my favorite seemed to not even ring a bell... Despite it being one of the most important researchers in his field. Thinking a goo...

Re: We need to pressure young LDS women more about marriage.

I know there are Trump-supporting (and/or Hillary-hating) women, but it seems to be a uniquely male phenomenon to want to blow stuff up just watch it burn and to think that taxes = rape. Seems to be a similar mindset. I think that perhaps 5 years ago, these types would have been socially censured mo...

I for one blame our disgusting government. They came out of the woodwork November 8th ... and I'm not even in Provo! This was in bars!

Watching that clip was good though because holy cow I NEED TO GET OUT OF UTAH AND MY JOB IN UTAH COUNTY.

(I'd marry a tree as long as it was blonde and worked in tech?)

Re: We need to pressure young LDS women more about marriage.

On the other hand, this question makes me gleefully happy, haha. ^_^ I had never heard of the "666." Vanity, entitlement, and summer sales? IT MUST BE BYU. Well, you can't change your height, but you can hit the gym, subscribe to GQ, and go work for a solar company or investment bank. Also...

Re: get TRPers out of my feed

Oh yeah, the Nazi Mormon. One of the few left that takes the whole "white and delightsome" thing seriously and is actually disappointed that the Church downplays all the historic racism these days. Super super gross. I'm proud to say she blocked me on Twitter. Your primary or secondary ac...

Re: get TRPers out of my feed

Geeeeez. I had never heard of this phenomenon until this question, then saw it again today on this 538 article: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dissecting-trumps-most-rabid-online-following/. Sounds like a pretty craptastic worldview and my life has not in any way been enriched by learning of ...

Re: Mental illness is dumber

My therapist is actually 100% on board with me running away from this garbage news cycle for a while and just mountain biking in the wilderness and I think she has a good point. My day to day functioning is fine I guess but I feel like I'm about to snap.

Well I had braces for 10 years...so there's that  Do you wear glasses by any chance Portia? Over the past few years i developed a skin allergy that mostly manifested in extremely sensitive and puffy skin under my eyes. Wearing my glasses for about 45 minutes once a day was enough to cause th...

#89177 - hypothetically change one part of one's appearance

Thought this question was interesting, and I liked the answers, with their wide variety of emotional attitudes. My answer when a teen would have probably been to not be flat-chested: so there is a God, I guess. B-) lol I have a genetic predisposition to exceptionally sensitive skin -- including pain...

Re: Anyone ever been a contractor?

I did some freelance writing for awhile and my aunt has done some contract-based copyediting. You might already be aware of this, but when someone gives you a number take into account how much your taxes will be--with a "normal" job the employer pays part of your income taxes and you pay ...

Re: acquiring non-book items in libraries

But yeah, I'm not really sure what good examples of a "Title" are if you're only using MARC21 format. Or if that's even a good name for what I'm talking about. I have a headache. :P But guerrilla literature is such a great term. (And localization apparently would mean our Australian custom...

acquiring non-book items in libraries

A little light reading for work brought me here. "Title" and "Item" are such overloaded terms. Must be nice, being Australia, believing in (dismissive air quotes) "art" and "diplomacy" http://www.nla.gov.au/librariesaustralia/files/2015/06/Non-book-reso...

Anyone ever been a contractor?

So I have actually become weirdly attractive to headhunters. I turned down a contract-based job that was double my current wage because the work, boss, and atmosphere seemed miserable. Another six-month-long one popped up -- the commute is bad (no car, that's important) and there are no benefits (we...
