Re: freebyu

This is belated, but Alma 24:30 is the reference I was thinking of. I just came across it in my reading today. The footnotes to that verse will probably get you other references.

THANKS!

Re: new mother anxiety

This is why i don't go around new moms until they ease out of that phase. It's just too uncomfortable.

It could also explain why I haven't held many newborns.

regarding http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/81233/ In Anne's answer she referenced that in the scriptures "there is a difference between people who lack light and people who decide to leave it." I can think of plenty of BOM stories that exemplify this but i'm no scriptorian so I'm blanking...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

I've been thinking a lot about the role of consumerism in domesticity and relationships. Why must we legitimize our relationship by the buying of things? To me, my marriage was legitimized by the officiant saying so. :D Ok ok that's probably not what you meant. I see buying of things as the way a c...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

That works too! Some of the best gifts I got were off registry. Some of the worst gifts were too...but 99% were heartfelt items such as quilts in our wedding colors, homemade cutting boards, cookbooks from our hometown favorites, etc. A bonus is that those items are way easier to write thank-you not...

I just liked this:

Re: Mormons and Gov't Aid

YES. THIS. THANK YOU CONCORDE! If anyone in my ward asks me if kids are on our radar (which is annoying/rude, but we all know this and the topic has been beaten to death), I want to response "whenever I wouldn't have to be on gov't aid to have one." But that would be rude. Or would it? Oops.

Awkward Initials #80490

Speaking of awkward initials in #80490 When I was trying to get us a return address stamp, I came across an issue with our combined initials. Most of my preferred design options had the couples initials. If we put our initials in the traditional sense it reads SNM and if we just did our first names ...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

It's wise to be aware of cultural differences which may cause offense, but it's pretty damn insulting to ascribe those differences to westerners being uncouth hicks who don't care about "propriety." I could just as easily say that westerners are raised to value hard work, so they put a hi...

Re: #80184 - en

Sort of off topic, but mostly an example of an exception to the 25/26 rule: Around 2003, there was a girl who stayed at my parents house for the summer while she was doing an unpaid internship. She was maybe 20 and had recently been endowed. We talked a lot during the summer and she revealed that th...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

I got a wedding invitation from an LDS couple a few years ago that said, "In accordance with Chinese tradition, we are requesting that guests give us money in red envelopes." The bride and the groom were both white Canadians and neither of them had any connections at all to China. I would...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

If Mormons believed in traditional weddings there'd be a whole hell of a lot more champagne and no basketball hoops in sight. And anyone who was close family could attend. In the bible belt you get a lot of non member church receptions...and basketball hoops. They all seem to have carpet floors tho...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

What I want to know is, where do you put the website information? On the invite itself, or is that supposed to go in an insert too? You can do either. Not everyone does inserts because they can get pricey. If you put it on the invitation, it usually goes in the lower left corner. Why the left corne...

Re: Wedding Registries in Inviations

We're not traditional when it comes to weddings, though. I could argue that we are actually more traditional about marriage than "the world" (who would call us "old fashioned"). Long engagements and extravagence at the wedding, although certainly not new things, have actually be...

I have the feeling I'm about to be really unpopular here and get hated on...but this topic fires me up. This Board Question: #80175 Before I begin....if you put registry info in your invitations and just thought it was the norm or whatever then I forgive you...not that you need my forgiveness. But I...

Re: would you date outside your religion?

So, I'm new, and this thread is kind of deadish, but it's a topic close to my heart... Would I date someone of another faith? That's exactly what I did. I don't recommend it. My long explanation: I dated quite a few non-member guys when I was starting my career after college. I didn't get my undergr...
