Re: How Active is Active?
I've heard the same thing that bob has, that attending once a quarter means you're designated as "active" and less than that means you're "inactive" (source: I'm friends with my ward membership clerk). If anyone's curious and wants to strategically time their church attendance, t...

Re: Deciding Where to Settle Down
Be a nomad. It's more adventurous. I have a friend who actually does this! She and her husband both have internet businesses, so they move around the world as the whim strikes them. Even though they have a kid who's about 18 months now. Every few months she'll post Facebook photos from some new cor...

Re: Facial hair on men
My friend can grow the most GLORIOUS blond beard. It's even better than Thor's. I had another friend who tried to claim that blond men can't grow good beards, and I showed her a picture of my bearded friend and it shut her right up. I used to not like facial hair at all, but I've discovered that I h...

Re: What's for dinner?
And really what I should do is just freeze this chicken so I don't feel like I have to eat two whole chickens' worth of meat in a week. Haha. That would be smart. But then I think, "But what amount should I freeze them in if I don't know what I'm going to be cooking with them later?" I wo...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to
It was my first time reading anything by Neil Gaiman, so some of my hesitation comes from not being used to his writing style. For most of the book I felt like I didn't know enough about what was going on to fully appreciate it. But overall it was great, and the conclusion was just perfect (and emot...

I finished American Gods. Is there anyone who's read it who can help me talk about my feelings?

Re: Answers I liked
What's interesting about homosexual couples is that they don't have any preexisting gender-based division of labor to draw on, so they have to do a lot more negotiating about who's going to do what and why, instead of making default assumptions. An interesting (and long) article on just this issue:...

#75912: Uncomfortable moments in class
http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/75912/ I can top those stories. Background: I'm a graduate student (not at BYU) and this course was taught by a professor with a serious misanthropic streak. Usually I would attribute it to him being on painkillers the entire course because of a knee replacement (t...

I will add a fourth witness to the awesometude of Genuine Article's answer. As for her Point D, I also wish the temple endowment weren't tied to closely to other events like marriages or missions. Too often it's seen as a box you check on your way to doing this other big thing rather than something ...

Re: Physical attraction, makeup, and clothes #75821
Cause men are attracted to females, even the ones they aren't married to, based on physical appearance. Women usually think that clothes and makeup make a difference in how attractive they look. I think it's also important to point out that there are vast differences among men and women in the impo...

Re: Laptops with Win 7
The program I use is called Classic Shell and it restores the start menu. With that, it operates pretty much like a Windows 7 or XP machine. I'm sure there are ways to disable the charms bar, too, if you find it annoying (like I do). If that's your biggest hesitation about Windows 8, it sounds like ...

Re: Laptops with Win 7
I've been lurking here forever and ever and this topic has finally brought me out of my lurker-dom. I have a Lenovo U310 ultrabook with a 13.1" screen and a 1.5 gHz processor that runs Windows 8.1. At first I thought I'd hate Windows 8, but I installed a couple programs that make it run basical...
