Re: #91343 2 Nephi 5:20-21
Black Sheep doesn't need me to defend her. She's a strong and capable person who has advocated bravely for herself. Hey, thank you. And thanks to you, too, Arcaiden. This is precisely the problem with race and LGBT issues that face us today. Minorites from both groups have communicated pain and off...

Re: #91343 2 Nephi 5:20-21
I agree that ideally we would hear from a black Mormon about these verses, which are racist. But I think we should still talk about race issues even if we don't have black people present, otherwise we risk ignoring them. At the same time, we should follow good mourning etiquette which is "comf...

Thanks to Marduk for a more measured, eloquent version of what I meant, though I stand right by the original. I’m disappointed in you TBS. I constantly feel condescended to by you, and phrases like this are one reason why. Please stop using this kind of language with me. I'm not your kid or your men...

Most of mine still haven't posted, though the ones I really cared about all have. It is interesting.

Okay, wow.
I like Dragon Lady, but she is out of her lane here, I think. SHE had a lot of pain over this issue? She's white. I'm glad she got to feel better, but this answer is just laden in white privilege and nonsense.

Re: Do kids really need a middle name?
I mean, I'm sure I wouldn't have feelings about mine either except my parents created two terrible middle names for me and my next youngest sister to make them work with the theme they were using. My other four siblings all got perfectly fine middle names, none of which I have feelings about. So jus...

Re: Do kids really need a middle name?
I hate my middle name. Always have. I have frequently considered changing it to my mother's maiden name.

Re: What is the purpose of life? #91071
The thing is though that lots of us do know what truth the church has revealed and find ourselves somewhere between unimpressed and traumatized by the experience. So I found some of your phrasing to be flippant as well. It's not that we're undereducated in doctrine. It's that, after careful consider...

Re: Elder Oaks and the Dominance of Straight Opinions
FOR REAL THOUGH. Want to know how someone in a marginalized group is affected by something? Look for a perspective from inside that group. AND THEN BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY. AND DON'T JUST CHERRYPICK THE TOKEN ONE WHO GETS PUBLICLY PRAISED FOR NOT CAUSING A FUSS. Don't just look around you, shrug, and ...

Oh duh, of course. Honestly, neither do I. Thank goodness Stunt does and then passes on the must listen list.

Re: 90363 & 90656 - Interacting with inactive family members
From the original question - the anonymous writer said that the difficulties are pretty much irreconcilable. And....to be honest, I kind of agree. Yeeeeah, me too. Something's gotta give for anything to substantively change, and an expectation that this will happen is just not usually practical in ...

I'm legit upset about the answers to both of these (I asked the latter) and could use some perspectives from others, if anyone is interested in sharing their thoughts.

Structure is the best thing. Normalcy is good. I would have been mortified and frantic if I had not had those things.

Re: Mental illness is dumber
Just checking back in. Thanks to everyone who commented and made me feel more secure about this. I'm now a lot more comfortable with the borderline diagnosis, and I'm choosing to think of myself as a warrior for surviving as long as I have and not completely alienating people as a result of this dis...

I've been out in New Jersey a lot over the past 18 months on account of visiting my now-ex-girlfriend. I hope you're enjoying it. I love Jersey (except Newark).
I'm living in Portland where I tutor math.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
This forum is a lot less active than it was a couple of years ago. I think it's because it got too liberal for a lot of people. And no, we don't really have a lot of new members.
