Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
wow...why are you still "friends" with that guy? he sounds like a creep. Well, he's not identified as special ed by the district, but I suspect he's been pushed through because it take a whole lot of work to get a kid identified, and teachers don't have that kind of time. And some of them...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
I would agree with your argument regarding computer-generated images in pretty much all realistic cases, but to make my point about the problem with taking things to their logical extremes, imagine two guys, Jim and John who have never met. Jim is the most skilled graphic artist in the world. One d...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
But perhaps this is simply derailing the topic. If you're against pornography in general, then of course you're against child pornography as well, so the case is practically moot. Aye, but the reverse case is where things get interesting. If someone is ok with pornography but not child pornography,...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
Marduk - I don't think that porn is inherently harmful (excluding child pornography, which exploits children) I'm intrigued at this thought. At what point is the distinction made defining child pornography? Under 18, as the US defines it? oftentimes looking at our boundaries we can gain insights in...

Re: The term "feminist" and its connotations
Oh, well Tao is kind of a hick, so we'll just have to forgive his assumptions about feminists. (yeah, don't worry I am totally justifying a stereotyped response based on a stereotype.) Too true! I'm looking back to the point, earlier in the discussion, where Tao says "'feminist' by definition ...

Re: Mary Poppins
1. Couldn't you say that about any politically charged term? (Socialist, Muslim) Aye, and I'd expect generalizations are more the rule with each of those terms as well. 2. Why not let the members of such a group self-identify? Of course, let each identify with that which they so feel best. But know...

Re: Mary Poppins
Also, I don't see why feminists always have to see red just because a woman chooses to stay at home. One feminist on this thread said "the character simply had a lot more resonance for me, personally . . . " (emphasis added). If you would like feminists not to generalize about SAHMs, it m...

Re: Creation of the earth
Wherein do you find Adam-God in "Sons of Michael, He approaches" without trying to put it in? There's as much Eve-God in it as Adam-God. Yes, you'll see he is likely referred to as our Eternal Father, but they also call Eve Endless, a name of God, so they're secretly calling her God too! A...

Re: Sex Education in the Church
"Addiction" isn't some fuzzy term like "faith" or "family togetherness" or "sin" that can be argued endlessly; it's an objective, scientific pattern of neurological stimulation. Reading, running, the Pride & Prejudice miniseries, texting . . . all of thes...

"Hello, little girl. What's your rush? You're missing all the flowers. The sun won't set for hours. Take your time." --Mr. Wolf, "Hello, Little Girl" Into the Woods Heh, I was just thinking of that song, though I would have gone with "there's no possible way, to describe ho...

Why wouldn't xenophily work; seeing how xenophobia isn't so strictly defined as fear of strange people, but anything that is strange or foreign to one's experience?

I know what the significance of the italicized words are in the KJV, is it similar in the JoD? Do we have conflicting records of those words or something? Sure, sometimes it could be translated as simply as emphasis, but others most definitely not. Bah, give me the OT anyday.

Aye, I'm with Marduk on this one. Though a physicist by trade, well do I know that many of the 'hard' sciences are run by nearly as much bunk and emotional attachment as any pseudo-science. Truth be told, string theory pretty much fits all of Hypatia's criteria for pseudo-science. Granted; they are ...

heh, I was trying to see what I would do with your list of dream features: -a kitchen built outside for canning: I figured I'd think having a triple sink in close proximity to the greenhouse would come in plenty helpful, it'd be better if it had running water anyway, so attaching the kitchen thereun...

aye, it was a bit large for that. I tried to make it accessable, but gdocs and excel don't mesh that well when it comes to pseudo-CADing it seems, it kept the shading and the cell size, and that's about it. Meh, this works. I just was fiddling around to see what kind of acreage it would take, as wel...
