Re: Waiting Lists for Ridiculously Expensive Summer Camp
This is weird because my in-laws are really in to some expensive camp that a few of their kids went to as well. But we don't have kids yet. And my husband was the oldest and didn't go because they didn't have the money at the time. So it hasn't come up. What I find funny is that they think it's supe...
Re: Homebirth
I'm just tired of hearing home-birth moms tout how high and mighty they are for their beautiful fearless natural organic free-trade grass fed birth. whatever. I'd rather end up in a hospital that won't let me move around than end up like the many women my med-school friends tell me about seeing on t...

Re: #82371 - ask for forgiveness, NOT permission
I told my husband I would appreciate it if he would talk to (not necessarily ask) my parents even though they already knew what was going on. I only did this because I knew my mom would be upset otherwise. My dad was kind of like "whatever" about it because I was 27 and knew I could take c...

Re: Game of Thrones - #82286
not game of thrones related, but tv related: In relief society once, the teacher was talking about how she and her husband made a rule that they couldn't watch tv unless they had read their scriptures that day. Because of this rule they set, getting hooked on breaking bad made them read their script...

Conversation with a boy in the Cougareat: "What are you studying?" "O chem" "Oh, are you going into nursing?" "No, Computer Science" "Oh...OH...oh!" Yeah, because the ONLY REASON a woman at BYU could POSSIBLY have a reason to study advanced chemistr...

I'm a little late to the party, but I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. My "day job" is in the male dominated field of construction management. For clarification, I do not do actual construction worker work things. I have a desk and an office. Anyways, I noticed the sexism was ten times...

Re: BQ 81245 Religious Rights of Business Owners
I get what you're saying, but I hardly think making a cake for a same-sex wedding is the same as denouncing God. I'm not even sure yet if it's the same as condoning same sex unions. For him, I suppose it did seem that way so he acted according to his own conscience. So it must have been right for hi...

Re: BQ 81245 Religious Rights of Business Owners
To paraphrase what Yayfulness said, "I hope you can see the irony of a baker almost literally being forced back into the closet in order to not render services for a wedding he believes is immoral. Whether or not the baker was within his rights to refuse them service, I think suggesting a bake...

I brought that up to point out how it appears he sides on the far side of christianity.
Like I said before, if he didn't want to do the job he should have just said he was unable to do the cake that day and point them towards other bakers he thinks are good too.

It should be mentioned that the baker also will not make halloween or bachelor party cakes.

I just want to know why Charlie and David would want someone who disagrees with their wedding to make their cake?
I personally, would not want any disagreement with my nuptials to touch any part of my wedding.

and the potential clients just want to raise a stink. Ah, yes, so self-centered, wanting flowers or a cake on your legal and lawful wedding day. /s When there are plenty of other photographers, florists, & bakers to choose from, then yes I think so. If they are the only in town, then that's rou...

Re: BQ 81245 Religious Rights of Business Owners
I still don't understand why photographers, bakers, and other wedding vendors with such strong beliefs don't just say "Unfortunately, I'm all booked up that day, can I refer you to another vendor I would trust?" That's what I would do in that position, but I'm also not the type raise a hug...

I'm assuming you're headed in the direction of being sealed to multiple wives and that you have a different understanding of it than I do.Marduk wrote:I mean, how do Mormons so easily forget that polygamy is illegal, despite what their church believes about it?

I'm going to go ahead and be unpopular here.
What if the baker was refusing service to heterosexual couples until same sex marriage was allowed in his/her state? But he would provide cakes to same sex couples for commitment ceremonies or something similar.

Re: 27, still care what I look like
I'm older than the question asker, married, and I still care what I look like.
But, I will say that I stress out much less about being in public without full makeup and my hair done than I did when I was in college.

Unhappy Spouses
#81450 reminds me of Jim & Pam in the last few seasons of the office. Yes, I trudged through them. But I remember towards the end when the main characters were seeing the documentary on tv, Pam made a remark that she hated herself for being upset about Jim being gone for his Philly job. "U...

Re: graduating married
Me too. Well, from grad school. A grad degree is kind of dumb for my field. I only went because it was when the economy was at its worst and I couldn't find a decent(paying)/relevant job. You could say I wasn't really committed. So, once things improved and I got offered my dream job, I said so long...

regarding #81281 While I don't completely disagree with the responses that the mom is "out of line" and just needs to "deal with it," I think the son is ignoring the fact that who he marries can transfer good/bad/neutral emotional consequences to his family. I think the alternati...
