Re: Answers I liked

Hah, thanks. I wil say that it's nice to leave with 50% of the last year's most popular answers being mine. A reminder of when I was a better writer than I am now. Unfortunately I don't think I finished very strongly in terms of voice and style and content, but c'est la vie, non?

Re: Answers I liked

Thanks. I was very puzzled and peeved by the email. It was clear it was a throwaway, but to take the time to make one just to tell me I'm completely misinterpreting Harry Potter? I really was just thinking out loud. This is why I'm not overly passionate about anything. It makes people crazy. Also I ...

Re: Answers I liked

I don't really care about the record. Yeah, it was fun that I beat it, but when I started writing the answer that wasn't really my intention. I just got really into it and I discovered that there was more conjecture than I thought. I'd always assumed that Harry was a horcrux, but I learned that it's...

Re: Answers I liked

Okay. I wrote the answer and I don't have any actual opinions on what I wrote. It's literally just conjecture. Do I think Harry is immortal? I don't actually care. I just walked through it and realized that with some assumptions (whether correct or not) you could assume Harry was immortal. You could...

Re: Only Female...

I used to work at Goldman. The company overall has a HUGE problem with sexism. I wish I had awesome advice for you, but I don't, so instead I'll commiserate and say that you deserve better, and I hope your department/team is better than the company average. Thanks. I'm sorry to hear that as well. I...

Only Female...

I need to rant (what else is new?)... So I got hired by goldman, right? I had a dinner with all of the new hires and current employees so we could all meet each other and connect and network and what not. Invitation said "casual dress is preferred." I show up and I'm the only female. It's ...

Re: Divorced #81441

but I later found out that this guy intentionally went after 18-19 year old girls Despite being totally legal...that's more than mildly distasteful to me given his circumstances. Anyone know the divorce rate for Mormons? Like a substantiated number? GA's say that it's under 2%, but I have a sneakin...

Re: Answers I liked

Ironically, Portia, I adore The Little Mermaid. It's my all-time favorite Disney movie and I wanted nothing more than to be Ariel when I was little (not gonna lie, I still want to be her). But yet, I really disliked Merida. I don't know how that works. I honestly have my suspicions that it might be ...

Re: Mormons and Gov't Aid

Interesting points, Vorpal. I liked the way you worded them and it made me think. I was reminded of the fact that I filed my taxes early this year because I knew I was getting a hefty refund and extra money from the Gov't which is free (to me). It's not exactly the same as gov't aid, but at the same...

Re: Mormons and Gov't Aid

Interesting. Admittedly, Benson's quote is about the only one out there, and it's from quite a while ago. I still feel weird though about Mormons tending to be anti increasing Gov't aid, when a huge amount of them in the US use it. Using Gov't aid to avoid debt is interesting, because I'm also very ...

Mormons and Gov't Aid

I started writing this for a question on the Board, but I realized it was turning into a tangential rant, and was probably better suited to here. The question had to do with young Mormons having children in college, when they couldn't afford them. I know this is a very sensitive topic, but I've alwa...

Re: Answers I liked

Haha, when my family was sealed together, it was me that threw the fit. It didn't help that my brother and I weren't taught Portuguese and we were sealed in Brazil- we were so confused because to us the concept of another language just didn't make sense (when we went back to the states for a visit, ...

Re: Wrong Occupation #80148

No, and there's no doubt about that, but I'm just so frustrated with the idea that someone is selfish for wanting a career that makes them genuinely happy, and also wanting a family. Why can't I have both? There doesn't HAVE to be an either/or. And it goes the same for men in the military. I don't t...

Re: Wrong Occupation #80148

Exactly. I mean, hell, I just signed an offer with Goldman Sachs and turned down an offer in DC because I've been talking about marriage with my boyfriend and I was putting my potential future family ahead of my career choices. That wasn't the career I had always had my heart set on-- but you know w...

Re: Wrong Occupation #80148

You're making a whole heap of really self-righteous assumptions that frankly disgust me. Get the hell out of other people's lives and stop trying to police or judge them for their decisions. IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. You know NOTHING of this reader, his dealings with God and with his...

Re: Wrong Occupation #80148

I completely and 100% disagree with your assertion that military life is not a possible career choice for someone who will still make their family a priority. Both can be compatible and I have also grown up around military families and I have observed exactly the opposite. I've seen just as many peo...
