Re: Hate to be THAT person....

Part of it depends on how ok with being at a different level, relationship-wise, both of you are. For example, if you would be sad if he didn't say it back yet, maybe hold off? Or if you think he would be super uncomfortable knowing you're more committed than he is at the moment, you could also hold...

Re: An explosion has gone off in my life.

I'm so sorry. That sounds frightening and awful and I'm glad you and your family were able to take steps to get you to away from the situation. I don't have any personal experience with gaslighting, but I recently read this article about it that has some steps to take to feel safe again written by a...

Re: The thread of ridiculous units of measure

I told my husband to slow down because he was driving 167 trillion Bubnoff units over the speed limit.

I don't love it. It just looks so childish to me. I'm sure eventually it will grow on me but for now I really think it looks terrible.

I hope they're at least good IT patients who accept your advice readily and don't ask too many trying questions.

I'm sorry. You would think someone working there would be more educated and sensitive about this.

Re: Answers I liked

I hope I didn't come across as sounding like I'm ungrateful for gifts I receive. I just feel like the thank-you note is a relic of the time when all long-distance communication was done via letter. I ALWAYS thank people who give me gifts, but I prefer to thank them through whatever medium we normall...

Re: Answers I liked

Yes! If the giver of the gift was there when I opened it, I thanked them in person and I may try to remember to send a card later. If they sent it via mail I'll either text them thanks and a picture of the gift in use, or send them a thank-you card depending on how formal the giver is.

Re: Answers I liked

Hahaha, I hate thank you notes. I hate getting them, I hate giving them, and they feel incredibly repetitive unless the gift arrived through the mail. I still write them, though, but only because I don't want people to judge me.

Re: Regretting an abortion

This is slightly tangential, but I believe I read somewhere that about 30% of pregnancies in the United States began while the couple was using birth control. This is why I'm such a fan of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods - the ideal use failure rate is the same as the typical use failur...

Re: Regretting an abortion

Emiliana and Black Sheep, thanks for your kind words. Infertility is hard and the whole situation was terrible. I was a little nervous about my analogy but I hope it helped clarify my position. I wouldn't be comfortable being present for an abortion in most cases, but my discomfort would stem from m...

Re: Regretting an abortion

I completely agree there needs to be more systematic and societal support for pregnant women and mothers, and I also think adoption should be de-stigmatized (I'm not saying we should go back to the 50s and make every unwed pregnant woman place her child for adoption, just that it still seems to have...

That looks disgusting. I wonder if there's an etymological link to haggis or if it's coincidence that they sound similar.

No, they know about the war games. They just don't think it's going to be a game. Instead the U.S. Military will take over and we'll all be forced into FEMA death camps inside Walmart. I don't know how anyone can say this with a straight face...

Re: Julie Rowe and LDS Eschatology Wonks (Preppers)

I understand there have recently been several books of "prophecies" published that say the world is ending within the next few years. I have some relatives and friends who have embraced the whole prepper mentality and they all point to thedr books of visions.

Re: Regretting an abortion

I'll chime in and hopefully not come across as too judgmental. I don't think the comparisons of attending an abortion to being a designated driver are apt - drinking is not something I see as inherently sinful. It hasn't always been against the laws of God or the church. On the other hand, I don't t...

Re: Rant of the Day

I'm sorry. I can empathize, and it's really hard to deal with it. Even worse is that my husband is of Mexican descent, and certain relatives STILL won't stop making comments about "the Mexicans" as soon as he's out of the room.

My coworker spent the whole day telling and re-telling anyone who would listen about how his granddaughter got a "well-deserved spanking" because she didn't want to eat dinner and kept refusing to sit down and eat. I just feel like that's setting up a terrible adversarial relationship with...

Would a living will supersede the wishes of the relatives? I don't know if they're legally binding or not but I feel like they should be.
