Re: the players gonna play play play play play
Good point! I've known people who were cheated on by SOs when they'd been together for about two weeks. I'm sure it's still painful to have someone lose interest in you when you thought things were going well, but adding a broken exclusive status makes it worse.

Re: wedding night horror...or just provo urban legends
I've heard both of those stories but with generic Christians instead of specifically Mormons. I vote urban legend too.

Positive reinforcement of desired behaviors and time. Neither of which is always very comforting when you're dealing with a toddler, but there it is.

Re: Rant of the Day
All the research I've read says that punishing toddlers has no (or negative) effect on their long-term behavior, although you can usually get them to stop the undesired behavior right then. I theorize it may be because children have more complex emotional needs than lab rats. So a lab rat is just ch...

82822 - Pregnant Trek Ma
When I was between one and three months pregnant, I was so sick and tired I wanted to die. There were two foods altogether that I could eat without vomiting (saltine crackers and macaroni and cheese) and the smell of most other foods also made me want to throw up. I would wake up, dry heave, drag my...

Re: I feel like I got shot.
I'm so sorry. I don't have anything to make it feel better, because that's devastating. And I hope you take time to grieve and find some peace eventually.

Re: 82781- Chicken Pox and Judgement
I always forget that chickenpox is actually one word. Here's a group on Facebook that seems sincere and has 810 likes. Here's another website that you have to create an account for. I did, for science. It's not terribly active but the people seem sincere. Sample post: "I am willing to drive any...

Re: 82781- Chicken Pox and Judgement
I thought the question was referring to current people who are now (in the 2010s) holding chicken pox parties. I've heard that these are happening in anti-vax communities, although they might be apocryphal? I did find a handful of Facebook groups dedicated to "networking for chicken pox parties...

Re: Long Talkers
I have a visiting teachee who's a long talker. When I have to meet with her I let her know upfront how long I can stay while leaving myself a buffer of about ten minutes. Then at the appointed time, I say we have to go and we stand up, which tends to speed along the goodbyes and final thoughts. Alte...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Fair hair is definitely an advantage! I have extremely dark hair and extremely pale skin, and even immediately after shaving the roots of my leg and underarm hair are visible (as in they can be clearly seen but not felt through my skin and it looks like I have two or three days worth of stubble). It...

I want to stay at some of those camps! Too bad about the price (and the fact that I'm too old).

Re: Answers I liked
I really liked Haleakala's answer tohttps://theboard.byu.edu/questions/82241/. I think sometimes in the quest for equality and fairness it's easy to focus on sameness, but everyone's life and needs aren't the same.

Ok, new quote from the same person today about a senator being attacked. "I would like to admit to something like that, but sorry it was not me. And if I ended up in a lower kingdom I am now debating if it would be worth it seeing how it is better for one man to perish than a whole nation think...

Re: Only Female...
To be fair, I had a few colleagues I REALLY liked, as well as several that were really difficult to get along with. But my boss did ask me several times when I was going to have a baby, with the implication seeming to be that I was just working until that happened. The two-year mentality is a good o...

I used to work at Goldman. The company overall has a HUGE problem with sexism. I wish I had awesome advice for you, but I don't, so instead I'll commiserate and say that you deserve better, and I hope your department/team is better than the company average.

Re: Charlie Hebdo attacks and religion
My husband's last name actually doesn't sound typically Hispanic. People are always asking him where he's from. When he says California they ask where he's really from, then they ask where his last name is from. It's almost funny how badly they need to know why a clearly "ethnic" person ha...

Re: Charlie Hebdo attacks and religion
My husband is Hispanic. He insisted that we not give any of our children Hispanic sounding names because he doesn't want to hamper their future careers. My mother-in-law agrees.

It's just frustrating (and a little frightening). I can see him snapping, and then people will be talking about how all the warning signs were there and he was posting increasingly violent and disturbing things on Facebook. Or maybe he will just keep posting things and never doing anything about it....

To report or not to report
So I have a relative on Facebook who is a major conspiracy theorist and is always posting things about how Obama is the Antichrist, vaccines are created for population control, fluoride is mind control, etc. etc. etc. The last couple of days his posts have been increasingly disturbing to me. For ins...
