Re: Juvenile Literature

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card I think I read that when I was about thirteen, and I seem to remember being a bit more mature than I was used to. I can't remember now... there may have been a discussion of circumcision that bothered me... or something? But 13-year-old me was pretty prude-y (I even ...

Co-op time?

Weren't there some people on here doing the Bountiful Baskets co-op? What kind of produce have y'all been getting lately? I've been feeling like we don't have enough fresh fruits and veggies around lately, so I might start doing that again. But I don't want tons of swiss chard or sweet potatoes. Hm....

Re: 61885 - Changes to movies

Um... West Wing delayed their original Season 3 opener and added a new episode that aired like 2 weeks after 9/11 because they wanted to Talk about Things. The episode doesn't really fit into the show's time-line very well, and easily lifts out. And also Santos, the Democratic candidate in season 7,...

Re: Potatoes

You could do scalloped potatoes . Always yummy if done right. Or oven-roasted potatoes. For those, I just cube the potatoes, throw 'em in a bowl or big ziplock bag. Add some veg. oil to lightly coat, and then throw in whatever sounds good at the moment (fresh garlic, pepper, salt, seasoning salt, or...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Speaking of mailing people things... I just bought a bunch of awesome postcards and a bunch of stamps for them. And now I'm scared to send them to people because I can't think of personalized things to write on them that I'm okay with anyone being able to read.

*Sigh*

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

I would just like to point out that today is Arizona's birthday. 99 years, people. Are they planning a big celebration for next year? I don't know, but I hope so. It might even be worth driving home for... it's not every day that one's home turns 100. It won't pass unnoticed. In fact, the celebrati...

Re: Goulash

To me, it is macaroni, ground beef, spaghetti sauce, canned corn, and maybe some canned mushrooms. My dad made this dish all the time when he was in charge of dinner. It was pretty standardized, but he would sometimes adjust depending on what kind of pasta we had or if there were weird kinds of toma...

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Moral of the story? Buy a house, have kids (I'd recommend marriage first) and pay your tithing with a pure heart and you, too, can outdo the standard deductible. Aw man, are you sure you have to get married first? Nope. My sister isn't married, but she itemized this year due to (a) buying a house (...

Along the same lines, I was taught in grade school that different parts of your tongue are responsible for different tastes (e.g., one part tastes salty stuff, another tastes sweet stuff, etc.). I think most people were taught the same thing. But, it turns out that's total bunk . (If that claim ups...

Re: #61430- Singleton responses

Mary Ann Watson wrote about the episode in her book "Defining Visions: Television and the American Experience Since 1945." I know the book is available in the HBLL, and I'd recommend it as a very eye-opening read. Her chapter on gender and family is especially intriguing. Honestly, that c...
