Eirene's answer to http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/62067/

Lack of sincerity (and lack of recognizing the other person as an equal) is the difference between genuinely appreciative of your roommates / spouse and just being manipulative. Good call, Eirene.

Wallace's answer to http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/62007/

I was born in Utah County and lived there until I was 25 . . . and I had no clue what the reader meant when he said "the UC."

An anonymous writer's answer to http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/62070/

I always appreciate it when the writers are willing to divulge some personal information in order to help someone who doesn't feel as if he or she has anywhere else to go. It also always made me feel incredibly nervous when I was writing, so good on you, anonymous.

A-men! Having been on two search committees, now, I have a new appreciation for people who fill out applications appropriately, even when the information is also on their resumes.

I thought there were some great answers here, but Furious George takes the cake.

Also, for the record, I didn't think that DARE's answer was that rude; but, I realized that it is because of the tone I read into it (an overly silly response to a really unimportant debate).

(And, oh no, the answers I like thread just crossed paths with a answers we hate question.... IMPLOSION!)

Laser Jock's answer to http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/61774/

The last real (by which I mean challenging) math and science classes I took were in high school, and while I was strong in them, I did occasionally get fun answers, like the one time the ladybug riding on the turntable was over two meters wide. As such, answers like these just make my heart happy because I couldn't have written them. It was highly readable, and I was particularly impressed by all the details Laser Jock thought of.

I often diverge with Hypatia's answers on Church structure and personal faith. Here I think she got it exactly right. She did a great job of making the answer be as simple as it needed to be. I'm glad she gave the answer the reader deserved (the right one) and not the one the reader wanted (a logic-based rebuttal).

I liked this one because I actually learned something. I didn't know there was a logical reason behind expanding the tournament. I thought they were just trying to be more inclusive, or something.

The REAL reason behind expanding the tournament is money. Really, the tournament selection committee has room for VCU and USC when they stop including 8+ (11 this year) Big East teams. More games means more ticket sales and more ad revenue.

Well...yeah. That's basically the reason for everything that happens in college sports. Or professional sports.

Tragically, I must admit that I don't have succulents. I only wish I did. They are my favorites. Maybe I'll plant some in my brother's yard this year. But I do have lots of other plants.

This one gets my vote, but only because it's EERILY similar to my sister's situation. She even wants to buy a cow, as suggested by MSJ.

I wish I had been smart enough to do something like this before I got married.

Ditto! I laughed when I saw which you nominated me for.

Also, I wish I saw more of you. Missing the gathering last weekend hurt my soul.

I'm sure your crazy landlady would've loved that. After all, a cow is much less obtrusive than a cat.

[snort] I meant the other answer. With saving money. But somehow I had it in my head that I couldn't afford putting away excess money. I could barely pay off student loans. I also thought that I needed $100/week for groceries. When now I spend $100-150 every two weeks and feed two more mouths. I just wish I had been smarter with money when I was single. Especially when I was single and still making $50k/year.

I still have that idea in my head, yet we continue to do it month after month without a problem. Funny how that works, isn't it?
