Usually for software development or technical engineering positions, the first step in a job interview process is to do an online test to see if you fulfill the basic minimum level of competence before you're scheduled a phone interview.

I just did one yesterday evening and haven't heard back yet. It's a little unnerving. As soon as I turned in my code, I immediately identified a bug and a few things I would have changed. :/
