Pronoun Used When Self-Thinking

Post by Digit »

When you think deliberately enough to think in words, do you address yourself (“You need to return that library book tomorrow.”) or soliloquize (“I need to return that library book tomorrow.”)?

Depends on my mood. I think in the first person generally, but in the second person when I’m annoyed at myself.

I answered soliloquy, but occasionally it's address if I'm being stern: "Emiliana, you really can't hit the snooze button anymore this morning." Or if I'm being stern about something work-related, it's last name: "Get it together and grade those papers, Keats!"

Fun fact: I occasionally refer to myself as "we." Drives people nuts.

Do you think Queen Victoria actually said “We are not amused,” and if so was she giving her own opinion, or the general consensus?

According to Queen Victoria's granddaughter, Victoria said she'd never said that (to the granddaughter's disappointment).

The quote so neatly describes the way we feel about Victoria that it seems she ought to have said it, even if she didn’t. Thanks, Cindy.
