My Brother

Post by yellow m&m »

I hope this is PG rated. If not, you can delete this.

My brother (who is now my roommate) has this awful habit of going to the bathroom with the door open.

Guys, why would he do this? And how can I (politely) tell him to stop?

I guess you could just tell him it bothers you. Be nice and don't be over dramatic. ("Hey, when you use the bathroom would you mind shutting the door?") or... because that would be zero fun, the next time he pees with the door open you should just totally freak out. Start yelling that you saw him half naked and running around waving your arms above your head. Then he REALLY will never do it again. Plus, it would make a great story to tell friends later. Win, win.

I frequently use the bathroom without fully closing the door, but only if there are only guys in the house.

What the hell is wrong with that? You can pee AND socialize! Why should only women get to do that?

because when women do this, they aren't actually watching each other pee. They simply escort one another to the bathroom, and then go into separate stalls - with doors.

I actually don't know any women that do that. I may run in the wrong Circles, though.

On a related note, I haven't gone off to the bathroom with any Compatriots in years. So I really must Circle in the wrong Crowds.

edited because sometimes I decide to Capitalize my C words. Otherwise this nym is kinda useless.

That was one of my first questions to the board: "Why do girls go to the bathroom in packs?"

Yeah, women socializing in the bathroom is a lot different than the picture being painted here- it usually involves standing in line for a stall or preening in front of a mirror . . .

Oh, and M&M, just tell him to quit it. Fast, efficient, and effective.

You know, I once had a female roommate who preferred to pee with the door wide open. After a couple of horrendously awkward encounters, we had a little chat and she agreed to be more careful about closing the door around me. Problem solved!

Fact: when I lived in Heritage, we rigged a curtain up around the toilet so that if necessary, 2 people could be using the showers, one using the toilet, and the vanity area would still be fair game. Six girls + one bathroom = lowering the standard of bathroom boundaries.

Though, we did have a "no pooing while anyone else was in the bathroom" rule.

Agreed. If you're allowed to be blunt and honest with anyone, it's your own family.
