First of all, props to Appleton for referencing the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's probably my favorite cognitive bias, because I'm intrigued by self-perception and self-analysis. One small note: My understanding of the effect is that people who are highly skilled underestimate their relative competence not because they "think they're dumber than they are," but because they overestimate the competence of others. (I.e., "That test wasn't so hard—I bet a lot of people scored as well as I did.")
