Fruit Salad

Post by Dragon Lady »

I've got a ton of fruit that would be excellent in a fruit salad (thanks Bountiful Baskets!). But, I just realized I don't know what to put on a fruit salad. Do I just cut up fruit? Do I make some sort of sauce? Help, friends!

I like yogurt on it. Usually lemon, but the yoplait Greek honey is also really amazing on it. :D

I tend to just do a lightly sweetened whipped cream.

I usually just cut up fruit, although a yogurt or cream sauce would be good with it as well.

We usually spoon in some raspberry jam. Or some sugar, which juices up the fruits enough.

I have heavy whipping cream. Would I just add a bit of sugar to it an whip it up?

I like just putting a little honey in with the cut up fruit.

Yes, with a bit of vanilla and lemon juice.

Adding powdered sugar to the heavy whipping cream would give it a better texture. I like to fold in a little bit of vanilla extract after it's been whipped up, too.

If you're putting some fruit that browns after it's been cut up (e.g., bananas, apples, etc.) then adding a little bit of lemon or orange juice will help with that. I like to put a little bit of granulated sugar in fresh fruit salad to bring out the natural juices/sweetness in the fruits, especially if there are berries in it. Mix well!

We ended up just doing yogurt, but we have plenty of fruit leftover so we might try some of these ideas next time.

One of my favorite things to do with fruit is experimenting with fruit dips. My current favorite is cream cheese, honey, caramel sauce with a little cinnamon and vanilla. May not be as healthy as straight fruit or just adding yogurt, but it's good and you can still eat the fruit plain if you want to.
