I believe that my parents were overly controlling and perfectionistic, always eager to suspect the worst of my brother and I in our teen years, which I believe decreased feelings of trust. I also think that there was a lot more untrammeled rage than I would feel comfortable with in my future home.
Things I admire about my parents are that we were raised to respect adults, do our own work, and in general be more self-policing than many children I observe today. I also think that they were more willing to make true fiduciary sacrifices for our sakes than many parents do.
