Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Hi vorpal.
I'm in California now, doing my master's degree at Cal Poly. My wife and I have acquired a cat whose life purpose is apparently to eat literally everything. We're about an hour and a half north of the largest of the fires that has made the news lately - it mostly hasn't impacted us, but last weekend we woke up to a sky that looked positively apocalyptic when the winds shifted north.
Other than that, not too much else new to report, unless you'd like to hear a rant or two about city planning and housing policy.

Cal Poly is a great school. And you are living in a beautiful part of California, except now with the smoke and fires it seems less appealing. We have heard about the fires. They sound unusually devastating.
What are you studying? Do you like the California beaches?

I'm studying city planning, with a focus on housing policy and affordable housing development. It's not the focus I originally had in mind, but I think I've found the field where I want to make a career. (But then again, that's what I thought a couple years ago, and a couple years before that too, so who knows.)
I love living in California. We're close to some great beaches, but we're not really beach people so we don't get out there all that much. My favorite outdoor spot in the area is actually Moonstone Beach at Cambria. You can see a ton of marine life in the tide pools there.

Sounds like you have found a career niche you are passionate about. I think that is good. I made a few changes in my education path, starting with math, moving to electrical engineering, and ending with optical sciences.
We have enjoyed the Redwood forests of California, but I guess that is further south of you. We have also enjoyed the beaches with all the interesting rocks and pebbles that wash up, but that may be further north of you. I used to visit Santa Barbara, which has interesting missions, but I don’t know if they are located as far north as you live.

That’s interesting. I’m not very good at IT stuff. I did live in Arizona for a total of 3 years while going to the University of Arizona. And one of my daughters lives in the Phoenix area.

Hi Imogen!
I was thinking about you lately. I couldn’t remember if you used to live in New York, or New Jersey, or am I wrong altogether? I guess I could have search through the records....

I got the flu this week while recovering from food poisoning, so I might not be dead but I sure do feel like it.

Not sure if you're opposed to drinking alcohol, but if you're not may I recommend a hot toddy? https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food ... ddy-233821

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
If anyone has been feeling terrible about life for the last few weeks, I'm sorry. I'm pretty sure I've been taking all the juju that everyone else was relying on, because the last couple days I've woken up early and been prdocutive in the mornings, I've made new friends, gone on a day trip to San Francisco, had people over to my house, CLEANED the whole house...
The last week has been amazing and I forgot that life could feel so good. I honestly don't know he last time that I had this much zeal for life.

I'm applying to grad school in Electrical & Computer Engineering at my alma mater and the GRE and my application fee are both waived, so I'm smiling.

I'm experiencing the ex-Mormon version of this because of OKCupid's double-opt-in system now.
