Borscht. At 1 AM. Beets, red onions, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, celery, bacon, leftover pot roast, and beef broth. Simmered for a few hours and topped with sour cream. Also a little bit of white wine vinegar. I have died and gone to heaven.

Re: What's for dinner?
My dinner last night was unremarkable, but this morning I made bacon, ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches for Marduk, Random, and I. One of my favorite breakfasts ever.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

My sister's ward activity is a Chopped activity. For dessert she had to make something with marshmallows, chocolate, and bacon.

Dinner last night was roast beef, potatoes, and veg - nothing too special (though roast beef is my favorite).
For dessert, however, we made Slutty Brownies.

My sis in law made dinner. I believe it was CostCo Chicken Cordon Blue. Very yummy. With green beans and a salad and rolls.
Re: What's for dinner?
I made bean soup based on my mom's recipe, but with vegan sausage instead of regular. NEVER AGAIN.

I got the breaded tilapia just right tonight. Golden brown and crispy on the outside, flaky white on the inside.

Re: What's for dinner?
I slow cooked two full chickens the other day and canned 13 pints of broth. Now I have a giant bowl of shredded chicken in my fridge that I'm trying desperately to use. So far we've had chicken alfredo, chicken sloppy joes and honey lime enchiladas. Any other suggestions of easy and delicious, and not scary (= generally ethnic food I've never before had) recipes would be appreciated.

Chicken salad for lunches. Fried rice (although it's much better with ham than with chicken). Chicken soup.
It doesn't matter what happened to get you to today, beyond shaping your understanding. What really matters is where you go from here.
Re: What's for dinner?
I think this is exactly what you should do with the chicken. Pupusas! Curry! Mix it with plantains! Pad Thai! Yum.Dragon Lady wrote:(= generally ethnic food I've never before had)

I was a very picky eater as a child. I convinced myself to not be a picky eater. I will eat what other people serve me. And I'll even be brave on occasion and make new things that are outside my normal scope. But tack on pregnancy and well, not a chance.
Re: What's for dinner?
Pupusas are just corn tortillas, meat, and cheese, fried up. Is that seriously too "adventurous"?

Re: What's for dinner?
I don't love corn tortillas. So... yes. Also, I don't know what you mean by "fried up". Like... do I roll them up and fry them in oil in a frying pan? Do I cut it all up and stir it all up while frying akin to stir fry? If I've never heard of it and never eaten it, and you expect me to make it right now, especially without a recipe, then yes. It's too adventurous.Portia wrote:Pupusas are just corn tortillas, meat, and cheese, fried up. Is that seriously too "adventurous"?

You DID make a point of suggesting exactly the types of things she specifically said didn't appeal to her. I don't think it's too shocking that she's still not interested.Portia wrote:Pupusas are just corn tortillas, meat, and cheese, fried up. Is that seriously too "adventurous"?
