What word or phrase would you think I had looked up?The central place of worship of the Mormons
LDS terms
Re: LDS terms
...a chapel. Or maybe a temple.
Re: LDS terms
Worship OF the Mormons, or FOR the Mormons. I am concerned there may be people out there worshiping us.

Re: LDS terms
(Also, much as I love the funny answers, I'd also appreciate more serious answers, because this is a genuine lexicographic question.)
Re: LDS terms
I agree with chapel or temple. If you're looking for something else, possibly a stake center?
Re: LDS terms
My first idea was also 'temple.'

Re: LDS terms
My first thought was temple. Yellow's was stake.

Re: LDS terms
I'd have to say temple. Lots of other Christian denominations use the term chapel, but only us and the Jews (as far as I'm aware) use the term temple.

Re: LDS terms
RLDS (or whatever they're called now) also use the term temple.
Re: LDS terms
Yeah, sorry, I shoulda been more clear; by "us" I meant all LDS denominations and branches.

Re: LDS terms
This is one of the definitions for "temple" in the OED. I think it's misleading because it doesn't distinguish between meetinghouses (/chapels/stake centers) and temples. (Indeed the quotations referenced don't make a distinction either, which makes me wonder if the compilers of the OED aren't aware of the difference.)
Re: LDS terms
I've talked to people who thought you needed to be a member in good standing and have a special pass to get into our regular Sunday meetings (i.e., they thought the restrictions for entering the temple applied to all of our meetings). Misconceptions abound!
Re: LDS terms
I'm quite impressed with this feat of reverse engineering (but, as I said, the definition doesn't help those who are unfamiliar with the culture and conflate temples and meetinghouses).Marduk wrote:I'd have to say temple.
