I finally read Persuasion, and it was awesome because I knew nothing about it going in. Literally the only things I knew about the plot beforehand were that someone fell off a wall at the coast and somebody wrote a letter while pretending to write a different letter. Now I need to dig up a movie version to watch. Recommendations?

OOOH! I love Persuasion! I had the same experience reading it for the first time not knowing anything about it. The only movie version I have watched is the one on Netflix, which does a decent job. Though in order to communicate to the audience how Anne is feeling, I feel like they took away a bit of the reserve that she has in the book.

Thanks to IMDB, I can tell you that it is this version that I have watched and found to be fairly accurate and enjoyable (minus the thing I mentioned above).

Have you read any Steven Pinker? I really liked his The Stuff of Thought. Oh, I just checked Goodreads and it looks like you have read it. Maybe you'd like some other books by him. If you want something really math-y Godel, Escher, Bach is a classic. And I've heard good things about The Power of Habit.

Haha, yes, I'm a big Steven Pinker fanatic and I know I have unread volumes of his in my massive collection in my grandma's garage.

You might like "Louder Than Words" by Ben Bergen, it's all about embodied cognition which is pretty big in cognitive science right now (esp psychology and linguistics).
