It's Yiddish. "Timid" and "weak-willed" come up a lot, though I had more of the "nerd" aspect in mind. Is there an entire Salon.com article comparing the Nerd to the Nebbish? Why yes, there is.

I do think it is fair to call someone timid whose idea of social is telling a recruiter about a time they solved a conflict. Ha! (Though I wouldn't call you schleppy - more Yiddish! - alla George Constanza.)
