I never did understand that song. I always feel like it should be about biblical Abraham. Or maybe Jacob. But the song fits neither. And it's probably about neither. And so it bugs me.

It is rather puzzling. When I first discovered that Abraham had 6 sons with Keturah, I thought, "Hey, that song actually makes sense after all." But then I re-did the math and realized that this brought the total up to 8, so it still doesn't work.

Weird! I learned that song as "Father Abraham had MANY sons...I am one of them, and so are you / so let's all praise the Lord!" Guess there's two versions going around.
