How Mormon are you?

Post by Giovanni Schwartz »

1) I go to church every Sunday (1 point for each Sunday a month attended, up to 4)
2) I obey "major" commandments (Chastity, Word of Wisdom, Sabbath day, Tithing)--1 point each
3) I obey "minor" commandments (daily scripture, daily prayer, monthly fast, 10 commandments,)--1/2 point each
4a) I currently desire/have a temple wedding (2 points)
4b) I don't want a temple wedding (0 points)
5) I currently hold a temple recommend (3 points)
5a) I am worthy of a temple recommend, but do not possess one. (2 points)
5a) And use it as often as feasible (1 point)
6) I do my home/visiting teaching at least one out of two months (1 point)
7) I actually have and do a calling at church (or would if you were given one) (1 point)
8) I qualify myself as an active Mormon in conversation (2 points)

And for Mico:

8) I like green jello with carrots floating in it (1 point)

Total possible: 20

I'll end it hear, because of the risk of crossing the line of "Judge not that ye be not judged."

Admins, could you kindly delete the other thread? the board board does not like editing polls, it seems.

Thanks for the 20 shades of Mormonness. :)

Of course, this is looking at straight-up Mormon activity and ignoring "cultural" Mormonness (you could have gotten to 50, I just know it!). But that's okay. I feel like... a heritage Mormon right now. When someone asks me "Are you Mormon?" I can't help but say, "I was raised Mormon. It's complicated." Much too honest -- isn't that a sign of Mormonness?

I only figure 18 possible points, as 4a, 4b, and 4c are mutually exclusive of each other. Unless you are married in the temple and don't care that you are, but that still leaves only 18 possible points for us single folks.

Hmmmmmm. Would "Thou shalt not kill" count as a major or a minor commandment?

Well....I just want it to be major so I can get more points so I can be in the top tier instead of the next one down. I haven't had a calling since May.

That was the swing point for me too. I ended up o. The border with a half a point. I've never gone this long without a calling before, but I'd take it if I got one. The bishop seems to have forgotten me somehow.

I suppose I should say "If you have a calling, or would take one if you were offered one and are worthy to do so."

Now you can change your vote.

I'm surprised I'm still a 7. That temple marriage is worth a lot!

So for the four temple marriage points - how does it work for people who were married in the temple, but are no longer active? Is it still four points?

... I apologize? It's not mandatory. No one has to fill it out. Everyone does it of their own accord. I'm sorry if I offended or hurt you through this.

I have a number of friends who would get full points for 1,2,3,5a(ish),7,and 8(maybe not this) that belong to different religions. That's about 11-14 points without even stepping foot in an LDS chapel...

Yeah, I was about to make a comment to this effect. I go to church maybe 2-3 times a month, and I keep a Sabbath of sorts, but I'm not even a little bit Mormon...

Hence the "not Mormon" option.

Members of other religions are a little bit Mormon. That's the whole point of the "bring all you have and let us add to it" quote from Hinckley.

The fact that most people don't commit murder makes them all just a little bit Mormon. We need to build on this common ground! For murderers, well... maybe they like green jello.
