Disposing of an old laptop

In going through old boxes and packing, I've come across my old laptop that died 3 or 4 years ago. Is there a proper way to dispose of old laptops? Do they have to be specially processed or anything? (I guess I'm thinking of the mercury in fluorescent light bulbs and wondering if there's anything equivalent in old laptops.)

Some of them will even pay you for it! I don't know which ones, though.

And Best Buy, Office Max, etc.

But FREE MONEY! That's better than just saving the environment.

It is! But sometimes "less hassle" is better than "free money." :)

If nothing else, take out the hard drive magnets and have awesome magnets for your fridge for the rest of your life.
