philosophy poll
I think this is a good diagram outlining the view of the inherent nature of humankind and the role of government as stated by three philosophers. If one matches your framework well, pick it. If none, choose another framework and explain in the comments.
Re: philosophy poll
I used Locke to argue a lot in high school debate, so I'm used to him. It's hard to tell if I came to agree with him or if I liked him because I already agreed with him.

John Wayne
Does it need explanation?

Re: philosophy poll
I hate choosing. Probably Locke or Rousseau, but definitely not Hobbes. I think I'd pick Locke just because his is the most moderate.
BTW, I'm taking my first ever philosophy class next semester (metaphysics) and I'm really excited.

I can't read this without thinking of Hobbes the writer. I just can't.
Re: philosophy poll
That was my first thought. ("Wait, so I have to go read a bunch of his answers before responding--oh Locke's not a Board writer never mind.")Dragon Lady wrote:I can't read this without thinking of Hobbes the writer. I just can't.
Re: philosophy poll
Hobbes will be sending his Death Squads shortly, seeing as none of you have voted for him.
Re: philosophy poll
I just read a quick synopsis of Thomas Hobbes. If all people are inherently selfish and need to be kept in line by a good king, where's that good king who won't inherently selfishly take from the people supposed to come from, as the pool of eligible things to be king would apparently be limited to human beings?
