Downton Abbey costume

Post by The Happy Medium »

I'm going to a Downton Abbey themed murder mystery party tomorrow as Mrs. Patmore. I want to make myself look plump but don't want to go out and buy a fat suit. Any ideas of how to do that? Any other costume ideas would be great as well.

You can get batting from your local fabric store, you can use it to plump up your torso, bottom, and arms if you're wearing long sleeves. Plus, batting has more structure than stuffing so you you won't be as lumpy.

Can I just say that I don't see a point in plumping yourself up? It would be one thing if you were dressing up as someone whose shtick is being fat, like, Fat Albert or Fat Amy or someone, but being plump really has nothing to do with Mrs. Patmore's character. Just wear what she would wear (dress, apron, glasses) and be done with it.
