So I have fairly high anxiety levels, and this is the number one thought that has helped me:

I've found contentment and joy when terrible, unexpected things DID happen, and I've been miserable when accomplishing Big Goals. This matches pretty well with what we understand about the brain -- humans are actually pretty adaptable in a crisis.

Seeking "happiness" in and of itself is a fool's philosophy. The happiest people I know are doing things that align with their values, instead of trying to "be happy."
