Woah, what?!

I feel like maintaining an individuated self is important in relationships, and this seems like a security issue. I guess if you have a joint bank account, maybe you need a single login -- but I wouldn't, so that's moot.

I do know my boyfriend's phone lock code, but honestly, I sort of wish I didn't.

I know some of my husband's passwords and he knows some of mine. It's just for convenience, nothing quite so dramatic as destroying our individual selves.

I find there's this weird idea in Mormon culture that you need to know each other's passwords to everything to keep people accountable about porn, cheating, etc.

Because the only thing keeping my technology use responsible is the idea that my husband is looking over my shoulder. *eyeroll*

That's what my wife and I have done. We started giving each other passwords whenever it was more convenient than keeping them a secret.

Same here.

I think password sharing should be more of a convenience thing than a we've-been-married-7-days-so-it's-time-to-share-our-passwords-and-create-a-joint-facebook-account thing.

Exactly, that's a faux version of trust.

Share passwords all you want but DON'T create a joint FB account. That is the worst.

Ditto. My husband doesn't have a facebook, but he occasionally logs onto mine just to check up on mutual friends. And I occasionally log into his email mostly just to check that none of the 9,000 emails his mom sent were actually important. It's not like either of us is keeping tabs on the other, but nor do we consider it an invasion of privacy.

We've shared a few passwords (Netflix for example) but I never remember them.

They're also an explicit violation of Facebook's terms of service. I've never reported someone for it, but I've definitely been tempted.

Oh god yes. That is the worst. Might as well have a cover photo with "We Don't Trust Each Other!" in bold font.

I know all of my dad's passwords because he can't handle computers, but my mom doesn't know them because she doesn't want to deal with him not being able to handle computers.
