Randomness

Recently the Board board has taken a turn toward a disruptive amount of randomness. The administrators agree that it has gone to far. While we encourage discussion and creativity, and love funny, ironic conversation, we would ask forum members to try to keep on the subject of the thread. This was the reason that the "Randomness" thread was originally created, to give a place for this kind of random conversation.

In order to further encourage this change, we will begin to post reminders in threads that we feel have gone too far off topic. If we feel that it is still out of control, we may start locking topics or deleting replies that are off topic.

I think we should have a tally to see who gets reprimanded the most often for going off topic. (Cough... 361... Cough...)

Is this a new game/competition?

No, it's more of an un-competition. Whoever gets the most points loses.

And since I can't edit my posts in here, I was going to add "I guess that makes golf an uncompetition too."

I mean, right, back on topic.

*cough cough*

This randomness really needs to stop. I agree.

We could have where everyone starts out with 10 points, and then for each moment of randomness a point is lost.

When you get to 0, you lose.

Is that the proverbial warning face, or is it just a warm up face in preparation for the warning?

Not too sure at this point, but we really would appreciate it if you guys could try to keep the conversations a bit more on topic, including this one. :)

We really don't like being mean.

You heard it team, all randomness is to be quarantined to it's rightful place, the randomness thread. Lest someone go and 0shoot informe's servers to put down the board due to a misunderstanding of the word "lame." (or we force Fred to be mean.)

If you wanted to go hard-core, you could limit the number of posts made in a day by members. (Just so that the uber-posters would have to think about what they're posting and not just say, well, random stuff.) At least, i think you can do that on this incarnation of BB. I know you can enforce a time limit between posts, which might have roughly the same effect. Ideally, though, you could limit the number of daily posts on a user basis for frequent offenders.

Or you could just limit the posts per day of the main offender...

Oh wait, I think I'm arguing the wrong side of the case... O_o

We could do that, but hopefully we won't have to.

I'm with Bis. I was rather relieved to see this new rule, because a lot of threads lately looked more like 10 friends IMing each other than a serious discussion of topics. I'm here for the discussions, so I was glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed the recent . . . dissolvement of things.
