As for the Huffington Post article, did you even look at it? Because if you did, you would have seen that not only is one paragraph written, it also displays The Daily Show showing clips of what the presidential and vice presidential candidates have been saying, where she does indeed contradict herself. Of course I suppose that the Huffington post could have edited the video completely to reflect their own radical views.

Although it may or may not be a big issue, both Palin and McCain seem to disagree over whether or not it is a depression.

No problem. I would also like to post a cnn video where Palin says that we should not second guess Israel.
Sarah Palin wrote:"We don't have to second guess what their efforts would be if they believe that it is in their country and their allies, including us, all of our best interests to fight against a regime; especially Iran..."
Now you tell me why I would want her as a Vice President, or the man who picked her as his running mate to be President. I think this is a prime example of her foreign policy experience if she if willing to explicitly trust Israel with matters concerning Iran and other middle east issues.

So she has so great a problem with one BYU student who may or may not have done adequate research to start having her hands shake and start crying?
Yep, that's what she said. Of course, the fact that Portia's comments amounts to gossip designed to smear the name of a decent woman, doesn't help.
Nanti-SARRMM wrote:Also, Sarah Palin didn't make the rapist pay, she made the victim pay for the rape kits. Or at least it was going on while she was governor.
You, and the CNN article you reference, relies on statements made by people who hate Palin and are trying to destroy her. There is no evidence that the City of Wasilla ever charged rape victims for rape kits. There is evidence that the City paid for them while Palin was the mayor. I think you meant to say "while she was mayor." Supposedly this all happened before Palin became the governor.

Well, if this is your prime example, Sarah Palin has nothing to worry about. As I see it she didn't say anything like what you claim she said.

Dear vorps,
I'm pretty sure you made up that conversation with your wife. I mean, the language you used: "Her hands were shaking, and there were tears in her eyes. My wife hardly ever cries." It just sounded so artificial. And the whole conversation basically sounded like it was constructed around you giving your opinion. I mean, that's just not how conversations go in real life. Sorry, sweets, but maybe you should take a fiction-writing class before you go writing more stuff like that.

And if those are things your wife actually said...well, I'm sorry you married a moron.

Dear SWKT;

I miss you. Why don't you criticize me anymore? I thought we had something special... but now I just don't know.

Yeah, you're right. I watched it again and it didn't quite fit what I was thinking it was saying.

Glad to hear it. I was raised quite conservatively, myself--I feel that, unfortunately, the Bush administration has abandoned the principles of conservatism (primarily on fiscal and foreign policy) that matter to me, and McCain would only continue that.

(And I definitely agreed more with Obama on that ABC quiz, but not overwhelmingly so.)

Nope! It's a variant of "McKean" which is simply "Scottish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Iain ‘son of Ian’, a Gaelic form of John."

Here is an article a fellow writer linked me to which may help explain why McCain is no conservative (in the ways that matter). Some parts I find interesting:
Today it is conservatives, not liberals, who talk with alarming bellicosity about making the world 'safe for democracy.' It is John McCain who says America’s job is to 'defeat evil,' a theological expansion of the nation’s mission that would make George Washington cough out his wooden teeth. . . .

It gives me comfort just to think that after eight years of George W. Bush we will have a president who has actually read the Federalist Papers. . . .

Most important, Obama will be a realist. I doubt he will taunt Russia, as McCain has, at the very moment when our national interest requires it as an ally. The crucial distinction in my mind is that, unlike John McCain, I am convinced he will not impulsively take us into another war unless American national interests are directly threatened.
Something to think about.

Dear Everyone:

I'm sorry if you're the type that finds something like Fox News (I'm looking at you, Ms. Blade!) "fair and balanced." I used Google News to find my links, with the exception of the Daily Show link, which I had previously watched. Though I readily admit Jon Stewart is no Republican, he does just play the clips (which equally make fun of all the candidates, it being a comedy show), and Sarah Palin did contradict herself, as SARRMMMMY has pointed out.

I'm not one of these people who will never modify what I say, or who thinks I am the supreme being of all knowledge, or who thinks all my sources are 100% perfect. In FACT, a comment of mine should post tomorrow, in which I update this answer with a New York Times article which has plenty to say on recent smear campaigns. However, at the time of writing, said article had not yet been published. Such is the volatility of presidential campaigns.

C'mon: are people honestly defending Palin's foreign policy?! Yikes. I think there are plenty of interviews (she is the one there, she can choose what to say--can't really accuse anyone of bias) where she has upheld the whole "Russia and Canada are my next door neighbors" thing to raise some eyebrows.

What about obstreperous' pointing out her thumbing her nose at the Constitution at the RNC? Isn't torture a moral issue, or is that not a concern of Republicans, and therefore unimportant?

In the very traumatizing event that I were raped, I would think it would be immoral to force me (or even think it were the best/only option) to carry any child that might come as a result to term. I would be stripped of my agency in such a case: I don't see how it is just to think that that is some higher ideal. And trust me, I'm no abortion rah-rah fan. I actually think Roe v. Wade was very unwise from a mere judicial standpoint, and find it quite horrifying that so many European nations have very strict requirements as far as the trimesters, and the US is so laissez-faire. But please, for the sake of not painting our Church as lacking any shred of humanity, and for the statistically significant event that some female reader of the Board has had to face the horror that is rape, don't get on some high horse and say that that woman is inferior for not wanting to deal with the very real consequences of her NON-CHOICE.

How is opposing abortion in ALL cases consistent with the views of the Church?! Read this, please. Isn't it a viable position that the conclusion in these circumstances would be that "no, I was robbed of my free will/this embryo is in my fallopian tube (or some such) and I will die if I do not terminate this pregnancy"? Couldn't God give that revelation and peace to a woman in that difficult circumstance? I think Palin just lacks the . . . tact necessary about such things. And besides, McCain doesn't even agree with her. Hmph.

I find it . . . simultaneously funny and disturbing, I guess? . . . that there are those who think I should be fired for my political beliefs and/or sources. If the editors think something I say is unsubstantiated, TRUST ME, they'll let me know. I could be a Socialist and a Board Writer, as long as I'm not defaming the name of the Church. If you honestly believe my performance is SO sub-par, go for it: email the editors a litany of why you think I need to be axed. Good luck, is all I have to say: I have a high answering rate, I'm reasonably well-liked, and I don't shy away from research questions.

This is all rather surprising to me, I must admit. The Beckalypse was emotional and I cried, but I can at least see how someone could think I was SO HORRIBLE, because it was General Conference, and that is always touchy. (I was young and even more opinionated than I am now.) But this? I was unaware that supporting Sarah Palin was written into the Honor Code, the Standard Works, the 100 Hour Board protocols, or NewsNet's rules. We are encouraged to use good sources, and I personally believe those I used are fine. Feel free to entertain your opinion, I guess.

I don't think there really exists this "liberal bias" in the media so popular in the minds of the most diehard neocons and Mormons. This is an opinion board, remember.

Lastly, we really don't represent the official view of the Church or BYU. See the disclaimer at the bottom? That is also on pretty much every book to ever come out of Deseret Book. It's on the Daily Universe. Unless it's over the pulpit or stamped and signed by Cecil O., I don't see how Ms. Blade's argument holds water.

(Imogen, I laughed at the phrase "alleged wife." Ha.)

Mr. and Mrs. Blade, I officially (and in all good humor) dub you the collective Adam Greenwood of the Board Message Board. He has a charming tendency to come across as writing "my opinion is the revealed word of God and anyone who disagrees with me is a sinner." You might want to avoid this level of dogmatism if you want to be well-liked.

Sometimes being kind is even better than being right. I hope tomorrow's comment about Obama smearing McCain as well as vice versa is just one instance that will convince you that I value truth more than you seem to currently think.

No news is fair and balanced.

However, of all the news stations... I'd say Al Jazeera is probably the one based most on fact.

They were the first, after all... to run the story on the US Embassy bombings... Something you would think CNN or Fox would be all over... Alas, Paris Hilton's exploits make the ratings higher.

News is overrated. Real journalism is dead.

Dear Portia,

I thought that your response to the question in question was well-researched and I totally agree with you. Also, it makes me happy that you don't think Fox News is "fair and balanced".

Dear Everyone,

I thought that Rafe did a very good job in calmly showing that Portia had misrepresented the facts regarding Palin’s views. Rafe’s comments (#47690) posted last Saturday.

In response to Rafe’s comments habiba said “Woah there sparky. Portia said she didn't agree with Palin's stances and used the phrase "I do not find..." which means it's her opinion, which she's perfectly entitled to.“ I believe habiba has given us a half-truth here. True, Portia is in part giving her opinion, and we all agree that Portia is entitled to her opinion. But Portia also attempts to convey an idea of Palin’s views, such as “she does not believe it should be legal even in cases of rape” and that is not opinion but a matter of public record. The record shows that what Portia tells us about Palin is not true.

Giving Portia the benefit of the doubt I believe Portia unknowingly misrepresented the Church and Palin’s views. In obtaining Palin’s views Portia went to secondary sources that she should have known were hostile to Palin. Rafe shows us that it is not hard to find out what Palin actually believes. So I believe that Portia carelessly and irresponsibly misrepresented the truth about Palin.

Once again, the issue is not Portia’s political beliefs and her opinions about Sarah Palin. Had she stuck to that there would have been no controversy. The issue for me is Portia’s momentary reckless disregard for the truth.

It isn’t a big deal to me. So, another BYU student makes BYU look bad by irresponsible misrepresentations of the point of view of someone she disagrees with. It happens all the time. For the record, Portia, in her last post on this topic, misrepresents a number of things I wrote, unfairly making me and my wife look bad.

vorpal blade, we all know you're rafe, so don't pretend like it's some other person.

and i don't know why you're so insistent that palin is being misrepresented. portia didn't misrepresent anything in her response.

and i'm glad you've found a woman to marry who is so insistent on being as blind to reading comprehension as you. congrats on that.

Meh... McCain, Palin, Obama, Bush, Clinton...

Pick a politician and I'll show you a liar. They ALL flip-flop on something.

I'm pretty sure the only reason Ron Paul hasn't been drawn and quartered yet is because he's no longer in the lime lite.

So in my opinion... you should vote for the guy saying everything you DON'T want him to do... since he's obviously going to get into office and do the exact opposite (or at least it seems that way these days)

Can't America just vote them off the island and pick someone actually qualified and prepared to be president?

Yeah, I would like different picks and am somewhat disheartened that this is all the America can produce for a leader. Oh well, I guess to resort to the traditional method of choosing; eeny meeny miny moe.

Rafe, my wife, and I are actually Sarah Palin.

Just kidding.

I don't suppose a simple denial would satisfy you, would it? I'm not Rafe, and I have no idea who the real person is who wrote that comment on the 100 hour board. Doesn't that make you wonder what else we all "know," but isn't true?

Perhaps, if you still aren't convinced, you should write and ask the 100 hour board. Is Vorpal Blade the same person as Rafe?

As for your other remarks I reserve the right to comment on them at a later time.
