I think there is more to it than that. Every Sunday I drive by another duck pond that has been frozen solid for weeks now.

Maybe it is because it is under some trees that help keep the area warmer? Or BYU secretly heats the water so it doesn't completely freeze.

Or, the Ducks are spies for the tunnel worms, who heat up the pond so they have a place to live, and receive intelligence in return. Which is why they don't fly south, because they are full time employees of the tunnel worms.
