Be advised, however, that store-branded credit cards have horrible rates and might even hurt your credit rating in the short term. But you gotta start somewhere. I'd do a student card first, even if it only gives you a $500 limit and a 20.97% APR like my first card.

It's also essentially being internally subsidized. If it isn't too late to join the conversation about what kind of laptop to get, I would suggest you stay away from the Macbook Air. Apart from the usual worries -- underpowered, no CD drive, etc. -- I've been hearing some disturbing reports of relia...

I also like Discover. I have a Visa from Capital One and a Master Card from Chase, but neither is quite as handy as Discover. For example, they have temporary numbers for use online, which I like a lot. And during promotion periods I get 5% back on types of purchases, which adds up fast sometimes. I...

Why tazers should NOT be banned

I defintely think that a lot of law enforcement officers use tasers excessively and innapropriately. But I'm not prepared to do away with them altogether. The alternatives are things like batons or firearms, which are worse. Pepper spray may be an alternative in some situations, but not always. I am...

Gmail spam

I'm willing to bet that the questioner in the spam question today gets quite a bit more spam in his or her BYU account than he or she realizes. Institutional mail providers such as large corporations or universities are heavily targeted, so most will filter out a lot of spam before it ever hits anyo...

I was surprised that the writers didn't also note this. Consulting one's self or one's friend isn't exactly a good statistical sample. I think it's more common among certain skin types, and it usually is accompanied by serious inflammation. That's probably why bruised eyes are good candidates for th...

I wonder to myself if there is a question that falls into both of those categories. Hopefully the former didn't occur during the latter.

If Mac's are too spendy for his taste, check out SlickDeals.net, which has tons of laptop deals, especially this time of year. Often you can take an entry-level Dell and boost the processor and graphics card for another $100. And I'm seeing a lot more laptops with separate graphics cards.

I have a lot to say about porn filtering and ISP's. I studied it a good deal for the last year. However, I can't spare the time to go into it right now. Ask me tomorrow after I finish taking the bar exam.

One of my email folders has 396 messages in it... that I haven't opened. I don't know how many are really in it. Those are all mail from colleges trying to recruit me. (My personal favorite was the one I got from SMU.) Don't make fun of SMU. They almost got a Supreme Court Justice. Okay, well, it w...

Letters from the DU are the strongest argument I have against BYU and "Utah Mormon" culture. I know that's an over-generalization, stereotyping, etc. But, every time I read those damn things I cringe inside at the stubborn, angry, even vicious judgment against every perceived social imper...

So what's the deal with the informe service? Does it have some limits that make it slow when there are a lot of posts? That kind of seems dumb, since it's all just a bunch of text. That kind of stuff has hardly any memory requirements.

It's not uncommon for little boys who sleepwalk to urinate on the wall because in their sleep they think they have walked into the bathroom. I had a friend who did lots of embarrassing things like that in his sleep. It didn't seem to have traumatized him too much, even though he still gets razzed ab...

I knew a little boy about 2 years old who would sleep walk. His parents found him across the road asleep in a ditch one night. That was a bit scary for them. Often times little kids get very upset when they wake up in another place, and it's unsafe anyway, so it's best to gently restrain them.

I saw this last night and it got me thinking. If I was someone in charge at a business or an organization, and someone organized my employees to do a similar calendar, advertising with the name of my organization, I think I'd be unhappy with them. I wouldn't want to have someone making money off the...
