Re: Doesn't seem like people use this forum anymore.
Sorry about the spambot that got through! I deleted them and set the board so that new registrations have to be approved by an admin.

Leap Second Outage
Sorry for being offline for a bit earlier this evening: I'm not sure exactly why, but the server this site runs on shut itself down. My best guess is that it had to do with the leap second throwing things off.

I just moved the forum to a new server, and if you're seeing this you're on the new server. (If you were trying to access the Board board between about 5 and 6 am MST, it was down, and I apologize.) If you see anything that's not working, let me know! (I'll be shutting down the old server permanentl...

It wasn't even close for me, but to be fair, I don't speak anything like most people where I grew up.

Re: How's the weather?
Heh, I'm guessing that was an HOA thing? (I have to say, I really resent the idea of HOAs butting in too much. Especially when they do stuff like ban vegetable gardens, like at my in-laws' house. No, not just in the front yard or something: anywhere. That would be a total deal-breaker for me, when t...

Re: Credit Cards and their evil users
I was pretty uncomfortable with the idea of a credit card at first, but it was because the whole system seemed so complicated that I was sure they would find some way to charge me money, whether through tricky fees, or because I was afraid I wouldn't understand when things were due (which seems sill...

Re: Credit Cards and their evil users
Is it unfair of me to observe that atrocious spelling (or orthography in general) often implies poor reasoning skills?
(I also recently realized that if someone can't present a nuanced stance on an issue, I likewise have a hard time taking their views seriously.)

Re: Spammer - private messages
Sounds like a desperate ploy to get inactive users to log back onto the boardboard. ;) That was the result, in any case! What's up, Boardies??? Ha! (As a side note, the reason I was alerted to this spammer is because I got dozens of error emails from the forum telling me that people's email address...

Spammer - private messages
A spammer who recently signed up (and escaped our purging, when we deleted a bunch of spambots) sent spammy private messages to most of the forum users this morning. It was just a couple of links to some software they were trying to promote; the messages had the title "I need your help..."...

Also, on the Board at least, you need to have the leading http:// on all links (or else the link just won't work).

Re: Credit Card question
Well, I did it. I just set up automatic payments. Except... it just automatically does it on the due date. I'm a little nervous. I hate autopay for flexible amounts. But... it's probably a good thing. Now I just need to remember to log in to put transactions from there into my budget, so I don't en...

Re: What Are Some Things Most Mormons Like That You Dislike?
I dislike ward activities that are entirely focused on kids. I'm not talking Primary activities; I mean ones that are ostensibly for the whole ward, like our ward's recent Halloween party. Last year, when we were in a married student ward, the ward Halloween party was pretty fun, and there were thin...

Site encryption (HTTPS) available
The forum is now available over SSL (HTTPS) if anyone wants: just put https:// in front (e.g., https://www.theboardboard.org/ ). There are a few exceptions; namely, if you're on Windows XP* and using Internet Explorer or Safari, SSL will not work. Also, Android 2.x will not work, nor will first-gen ...

Re: Stuff we're reading / watching / listening to
I've also been reading Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. Good books, but not entirely enthralling. I've read 2, and will continue to read them, but I don't have a strong drive to read much besides before bed every night. I read it this last summer and felt basically the same way. I finished the ser...

Re: Downloading a Website #74882
Yeah, wget is nice, but I'm sure CPM is aware of it. Its big drawback for most people would probably be that it doesn't come with Windows or Mac (surprisingly, although I invariably end up installing it on Mac), and most people don't run Linux. Plus the command line scares most people.
