Re: Genealogy
hahahaha! I would love to hear how this turned out, especially since recording it is by far the best way to make sure you get all the details! I interviewed my grandma for her biography nine years ago, and my tape recorder was a lifesaver!

Re: Do you sing?
Huh. After a several month hiatus, I find it interesting that this was the first forum that caught my eye. A bunch of musically inclined people around here! I play the flute at a 4, piano at a 2.5, and sing definitely at a 5. I've taken private lessons for many years (Speech Level Singing is one of ...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Heh. It happens that my roommate is the third of eight kids, so it's not for lack of younger siblings arriving at the house that she's like that. Portia, I guess when I use the expression "rose-colored glasses" I'm portraying the kind of idealized Mormony world where everything is good and...

Yeah? All the plant genetics professors work more or less in tandem in that lab- were you working for Dr. Jellen or Dr. Maughan? They're the ones most involved with quinoa- Maughan was my undergrad adviser and Jellen was my master's adviser.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Guys, I have a roommate whose glasses are excessively rose-colored and it's hard to not roll my eyes sometimes even thought I do like her in general. She's 28 and just seems so determined to keep blinders on in some respects. The one that's bugging me right now is that nobody can mention anything th...

Hey, that does look much better and less disturbing. Thanks for the spelling fix, Tao!

Re: Am I alumni?
wouldn't the way the word "rain" is sung in that song make it more like a tetrathong? Or quadrothong?
(Also, those words look surprisingly disturbing out of context)

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I'm just temporarily resurfacing to say that my new shelving unit for growing my seedlings is all installed, yay! And it's complete with indoor thermometer, which verifies that our insulation is awful and it's often below 60 degrees in my bedroom. In two semi-related notes, I am grateful for my ther...

Re: Congrats to LJ and Eirene!
Wowsas. I am way out of the loop from being out of the country and spending all of last week on Temple Square, but congrats! I feel like I have a rather interesting perspective here, since I knew LJ was dating someone and leaned about the engagement the day after it happened, but had no idea it was ...

Re: Daily random tidbit.
Okay. As someone who wrote her master's thesis on the family Chenopodium, of which quinoa is the most useful member, I can weigh in and say that Emiliana is pretty much right. It's a seed, but the reason it's not a grain is because grains by definition come from monocotyledenous plants, or grasslike...

Re: White Elephant Gift ideas?
Something fun and possibly useful in a small way: a huge pack of glow sticks (I did this once and they wound up with my brother, who then proceeded to have "light-saber fights" with his six-month-old son. It was adorable) Something hilarious, cheap, and not overly wasteful: These are my da...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Yay ArtCo in Rexburg! I love that place! Of course, now that my grandma lives in Idaho Falls and not Rexburg, it's harder to justify going there.
Also, you may all call me Jane, as I have now tracked mountain gorillas in Africa. Didn't find any wild men who speak to monkeys, though.

Also, I dug up the rest of the carrots and beets and a lot of tomatoes and some of the peppers and boiled it all up in a pot and blended it and it's pretty yummy soup.

Add handfuls of it to vegetable soup, or wilt a bunch of it and use it to top off a cheese sandwich.

Wait, isn't that what your original post has the date as? Now I'm just confused. But I may still come.
