Re: Book Recommendations
Dianna Wynn Jones is one of my favorite authors. Her books are for younger teens typically, but have really great character development so that they are still fascinating to older readers. I also love Robin McKinley's versions of fairy tales. My favorites of hers a are some of the harder ones howeve...

Re: International Travel Booking
He clarified that he can only book some things. And I'll be getting communication from the companies as well. Much less nervous now. When we were talking everything about the trip, I was thinking the pitch was just too much.
And getting contact for a referral is also a good idea. Thanks!

International Travel Booking
I know I don't really come around a lot anymore, but I still really appreciate all the help when I need some! :) I am going to New Zealand next March!!! (finally!) I've followed a blog for several years of an American guy who stopped his backpacking trip around the world and ended up settling (more ...

Re: Decorating your boyfriend's room
My parents had the same rule before I went to college. My first post-graduation boyfriend would come over and one night my dad finally told me "You guys can just go into your room to watch your shows if you want." And I was a bit flabbergasted. But it's really nice being able to bring a gu...

Re: Confidence -> Competence?
I don't think that confidence creates competence. However, I think that if two equally competent individuals faced a challenge, confidence would be the deciding factor. It can make up for some lack of competence, but it cannot create competence.

Fair Use and Dance Videos
A friend and I are planning on recording a video of us dancing tomorrow. But he wants to upload it to his website (which he is trying to turn into a business) and he's not sure how to choose a song that would be OK for that. I think Fair Use covers us. Would we be OK to upload a video of us dancing ...

Genetic Mutations
I'm writing up a game of Werewolf (or Mafia), and the premise for my story is that every character/player has a genetic mutation or mental disorder that causes a change in their playstyle. (Aside: The game of Werewolf, if you don't know, is basically the idea of the uninformed majority trying to roo...

Re: The appearance of "evil"
I've heard these suggestions, but never from a leader. Well, once, but that was exceptional circumstances. In my YSA ward, one man was banned from riding alone with women because of how he had behaved previously. He had mental issues an requesting he behave decently was not working. They also had to...

Re: I Dreamed a Dream
I had a dream about long boarding down a mountain with various guys I know. The one I cuddled with in the dream is the only one I haven't had feelings for. The other two were exes, one of which I dislike and one of which I'm still rather hung up on. At the bottom of the hill where we all sat and cha...

Re: Answers I liked
My sister actually creates ASMR videos for YouTube. She loves it. My dad was really confused and made her feel a bit embarrassed about it until that episode, and then he got all excited for her.

I agree with Marduk. And would also like to add that it can be performed in such a way that breastfeeding is still an option. If it's for health concerns (which is the experience I know about), it is more important for the reduction to happen before pregnancy and babies make them even bigger. Chroni...

Re: Work-appropriate Hair
It cost 70 for this. Next time, if I keep it, I'll dye it darker. At this point, I doubt darker would satisfy my boss. But I've been trying out some of the styles suggested here and it's working. I like the French twist a lot. And the accidental backwards version that I managed to somehow create tod...

Re: Work-appropriate Hair
I work at a bank. They're ok with me having blue hair. It's the amount that's a problem. And the shade. Personally, I am a bit overwhelmed by the shade. It's not the pretty sapphire color I wanted, it's more aqua.

Work-appropriate Hair
So I colored the ends of my hair blue. This was supposed to be a dark blue, about an inch on the ends. It's more like three inches of aqua. Quite pretty, but not ok for work. I now need up-dos to hide the ends. My hair is a bit longer than shoulder length. I've done a french braid with the bottom tu...

Re: #77861 - reading fiction a waste of time?
No, I know ILLiad is getting more common. I just didn't realize until reading this thread how lucky I am to have such an amazing library system in my home town. Seriously, I don't think anywhere in the main areas is farther than maybe 20 minutes from a nice library.

Re: #77861 - reading fiction a waste of time?
I will /never/ give up my local library card here. You guys are talking about a town having a single library with added registration giving you access to other town's libraries. And $80 a year? I have a free library card to a county-wide network of libraries with amazing facilities and large collect...
